It's a hybrid. One 12AX7 preamp tube and a SS power section. They sound pretty damn good though, and the head fits in your guitar case!

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...

I'm gonna have to plug into one of those. I usually shy away from modeling amps. I'm sure they sound good. My little Vox AD30VT sounds really good for a hybrid modeling amp. Uses a 12AX7, but not as a preamp - as a miniature power circuit with a virtual transformer. Very inexpensive amp that sounds...

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...

Those Gibsons are a good buy for a P-90 equipped guitar. I think Jim did pretty well with the stuff he bought for $1200 though. The Brian May copy, the DSL401 and the Hagstrom Swede are more than worth that alone, and the rest would be lagniappe!

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...

P-90's not that popular? News to me.... Those Vox's are pretty darn good guitars. Most need a little fret clean up but otherwise are pretty well put together and sound great. I like that they don't have a typically thick import finish on them. Yeah, they're so popular that they're marked down 67% o...

These are supposed to be really good too! $1000 list on sale for $330?!?!? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/vox-ssc33-single-cutaway-solidbody-electric-guitar They are probably awesome guitars, but Vox is not that known for guitars and P-90s are not that popular right now. I'm going to open a guitar store after the first. At this point, I'm still dealing with architect's drawing for the layout, but have the spot on hold. It's not gonna be easy because buying lines like Gibson and Fender involves huge layouts of cash, but I have a ton of used and vintage gear and seve...

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...

Ugh. I just impulse bought a guitar. I don't feel bad though. I was looking for a les paul...been using a crappy Fernandes, so I was just looking to see what's out there. So I go to Guitar Center, and there is a model I noticed earlier this year, the 1970's tribute Les Paul. It's got mini-hums (whi...

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...

Correct, run it in the pre-dsp loop and I would say in line before the wah so the wah does not diminish the ADA's signal, but rather the ADA can drive the wah's signal for a more powerful sound.

Sweet! I have an early Ultra V, round horns, small V headstock, black, MOP block inlays, black Kahler Pro trem and a Duncan Distortion in the bridge. I love it, even though it is only my 3rd-best playing Carvin after the CM130 and the DC150. My 1984 V220 was sweet too, miss that one. None of them ar...

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...

It's good. Good to play...I may change the lead pickup to a GFS Retrotron, because I am addicted to the way the mids cut on those pups...when I a/b the V against my guitars with those, they just sound more punchy and focused. I think i might also reverse the volume knobs... I still gotta do truss r...

Why buy it if you didn't want the Kahler? You could paint any V with the black and white scheme. Just saying because personally, I like Kahler trems. They have some good attributes Floyds don't have, and vice versa.

Anyone have any input on the new Vai Legacy 3 amps? The VERY FEW demos I've seen on youtube sound incredible, but man there's so little out there on it. I know it's new, but I've always loved the tone players get out of Legacy's. The scalable wattage is a major plus for smaller venues and to be so ...

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm not sure if it's a Mexian one, I got the guitar for Christmas ten years ago and just played it, never bothered with the hardware. It's a Fender Tele Squier from the Allmity series, at least according to the writing on the neck. If it's a Squier I wouldn't spend much m...

Yeah since it's just a Tele I'd rather not spend 300$ on a full fret-job. From what you've said, replacing the one fret and just slightly adjusting the others sounds like the most sensible fix. How much am I looking at here if I have somebody professional do this? I'd rather not fuck up the guitar,...

I'm just gonna use this thread. I suppose after about 10 years of daily playing, my Fender Tele shows some wear: The third fret of the B string-section has a noticable dent, and when I fret it, the string rattles. Since that's the only guitar I got with me here and I used that fret A LOT, this is a...

Anybody have any recommendations for an inexpensive acoustic? I'm looking to get one for my boys. I've bought them three Agile Les Pauls and they have been great guitars for the money. Rondo doesn't have much of an acoustic selection. One of them tried a Hohner HW300 and he seemed to like it. Any r...

I always had trouble dialing them in, but once they were in.. BAM! The gain channel is very Marshally and the clean channel is very Fendery (ac...

It's funny to watch Mustaine backpedal on his endorsement now when in the original quote he clearly said he hopes there is a Republican President next time AND that is is Rick Santorum. How can he back off to say he just admired him for taking time off to be with his sick daughter, when he specifica...

Bought an Agile AL-3100 a few years back. Damn thing weighed 13 lbs. Flipped it on Craigslist. That is the main complaint about Agiles, they tend to be heavy. I have heard that sometimes the Douglas and SX models without neck binding need a little filing of the fret ends which can be sharp. Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...

When I say cheapo I am not necessarily saying bad quality. Inexpensive guitars may not come up to the quality of the best, by any means, but cheap guitars today are a lot nicer than cheap guitars in the early 70s were, for example. the Asians in general have a pretty good handle on building function...
