Re: CJ Snare...Reach For the Sky....... :(
Sad to hear this. Firehouse isn't the most dangerous or exciting band in the universe, but I admire how they survived the hairpocalypse to become the house band for small town America. They played everywhere and did so with a humility and professionalism that created a connection to the people. They...

Rest In Sleaze era CrashDiet (yes, fully aware Dave offed himself shortly after that album.
I'd second the original lineup of Kingdom Come. Really liked the second album.
Would have liked another album from Roxy Blue

Re: How are Steelheart these days?
I saw Mr. Big in Green Bay a month ago. Drove from Mpls because MN date didn't work for me. Eric's voice was in rough shape. He croaked his way through the set and deferred to Billy and Paul for much of the vocal duties. Made them sound thin. Maybe it was a bad day for Eric, but the show blew. That...

Re: How are Steelheart these days?
I just caught them a couple weeks ago opening for Lita Ford in MN. Milo still has 80% of his amazing voice, which means he's 100 times better live than Don Dokken, Vince, or Eric Martin. Good band and an interesting set list (heavy on the Rock Star soundtrack). I've always been a Steelheart fan, bu...

Excellent year for rock. My 3 faves were:

2. Mindcrime
3. Bullet Boys

I saw them open for Dirty Honey in Minneapolis a couple years ago. Great live band. Kind of like the Struts with less attention seeking. 70's Rolling Stones vibe. Worth catching if they are near you.

Re: Who was the best second-rate GNR?
I never saw Tesla as a GnR clone. In fact, I think a lot of bands got saddled with that unfairly. I remember seeing a review for Sweet FA's Stick to Your Guns that said "stick to your Guns and Roses". I found that to be a lazy comparison. A lot of bands adopted pieces of the GnR vibe. Salt...

Without Love is a classic of the era. Softer than the debut. Great record top to bottom. Here are some of my BnB faves:
Show Me the Night
Action
Swing Time
Two Wrongs (Don't Make it Love)
Miss Mystery
I Want It All
Does She or Doesn't She?

Great band. Their 2nd album Skin is really good. Not your typical hair metal. I seem to recall a moderate push by Atlantic, but the ballad never really took off, so buried they became.

Shake City - "Betty Blue"
Been digging this gem from yet another band that went unsigned. Lead singer was original front man for Warrant. This is better than a lot of the stuff that made it to major labels.
Any info, dirt, or stories about Shake City?

I'm going to catch the Minneapolis show. Why not? I really liked Lean Into It and missed other opportunities to see them. The Fitzgerald is a strange place for this show.

Re: Radio Active Cats
I own this CD and it's pretty good, but it's not hair metal at all. Kind of a Stray Cats vibe wrapped in a hair metal package. "Bed of Roses" could have been a hit. I also have that TV in Flames record and I think it's better than the RAC stuff. "Love in Motion" got some minor ra...

Sad to hear this. "Love Is Alive" is one of those songs that you tend to forget, then hear it and instantly feel better. On a related note - the mid-70's produced some underrated gams like "Love is Alive", Gerry Rafferty's "Right Down the Line" and "Miracles" ...

Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck 7/10
Very interesting, but I went away thinking that Cobain was truly messed up. Not like cute little outcast made good messed up. More like certifiable mental problems and general dickhead messed up.

I'm a big Sports Center guy and I grew tired of his delivery after a while. But there is no denying that he changed the game when it comes to sports broadcasting. Much like Dandy Don Meredith brought announcing to the everyman, Stuart made is accessible to urban youth. Incredible talent gone too soon.

Topsy turvy the first couple weeks. The Seabirds lose when they looked indestructible week 1. The Niners get embarrassed at the opening of their new field. The Saints still with an o'fer in the win column.
Way too early to make any sort of educated guess, so I'll go:
Patriots vs. the Niners.

Fucking stupid. It's like they saw no need for a story editor. Just let the film meander to it's all too predictable conclusion.

The problem with science fiction is that you must live within the made up space you have created. Unfortunately, this movie zigs and zags and often forgets the rules it lays out earlier in the movie.

Tony Gwynn died from cancer today. He was only 54. Gwynn was one of those guys who defined my youthful experience as a baseball fan. I think of Gwynn, George Brett, Mike Schmidt, Kirby Puckett, and Robin Yount as baseball heroes. I'm sorry to see him go. By all accounts he was a class act all the way.
