Re: Replacements that made the band better?

Skipping the obvious/already stated: Tim Calvert in Nevermore - DNB would never have happened without him Gene Hoglan in Dark Angel and Testament Daniel Svensson in In Flames Marco Hietala & Floor Jansen in Nightwish Jason Bittner in Shadows Fall Geddy Lee in Rush (he's not the original bassist)...

Motorhead classic lineup reunion in 2005

Just found this on YouTube. A 2005 reunion of Lemmy, Eddie and Philthy playing "(We Are) The Road Crew" but no vocals.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmhhVgCD0hg

Anyone know the story behind it, how many songs were played, and why no vocals?

Allan Fryer (Heaven) was almost AC/DC's singer

Heaven's "In the Beginning" holds a soft spot with me because it was one of the first metal videos I saw on MTV back in 1982. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFHVgRse2To In the comments section I noticed people mentioned vocalist Allan Fryer had died, so I did a search and found this: http...

Pink Floyd were 7 albums and 9 years into their career when TDSotM exploded.

Remember Allanah Miles (sp?)? One hit wonder from Canada in the late 80s with a song called "Black Velvet." Word is she was around 42 at the time.

Meh, I don't trust any guitarist who is expressionless when they play. She's good but Saki is still the queen of shred.

And Midori and Mi-ya of Lovebites are a close second.

The Lords of Acid/KMFDM/Rammstein, LA, 1997. Greatest concert I ever saw.

Nevermore/In Flames/Shadows Fall in 2000 came damn close, too.

Even more striking is REM's "Losing My Religion" in a major key. Completely changes the song.

The use of major keys is one reason why I've taken such a liking to Japanese music. It gives the song a more upbeat tone.

Plus, selling $1000 tickets during the Christmas season isn't very smart. She starts the tour in May. Sales will likely pick up, especially when people get tax refunds.

Gibson to skip NAMM in favor of CES

Foresight or stupid? https://www.guitarworld.com/news/gibson-will-not-attend-namm-this-year Gibson will skip this year's NAMM show in Anaheim, CA entirely, according to a report from Music Radar. The company is not listed as one of the exhibitors in the show's online directory. The guitar giant will...

Re: Bands who did a comeback the right way

Alice in Chains. Jerry took the time to get his head in the right place, weaned the audience to Will, who had a huge role to fill, and made two very good albums. Rush's comeback in 2002 counts, too. Neil was done and the band effectively broke up in 1998. Geddy has said as much. Very quietly they be...

Re: Which 80s metal artists have quit music and become mysterious recluses?

My nomination would be Nasty Suicide from Hanoi Rocks. Monroe and Yaffa are still recording and touring, McCoy's apparently still playing on and off in various bands, Nasty jacked it all in pretty much overnight and went off to be a pharmacist. Nasty now goes by his real name, Jan Stenfors and is i...

Never wanted to be a full time musician

Are there many musicians for whom music was a short-term thing and never something they wanted long term? I can think of one example: Chris Lykins, the main songwriter for an Arizona thrash band called Atrophy. Music was never a full time dream, he just did it for fun while he was young and in colle...

A sold out Forum? The same place Rush played their last gig? You gotta be shitting me. They were never this big in their prime. Yeah everyone wears their shirts but I figured it was like Motorhead. Everyone wore one to be cool. I would have thought they'd play HoB but obviously not. Bigger question,...

I never got that impression. Lee and Lifeson are best buds. Neil is probably impossible to get close to but they make it work.

Just can't get over that he wasn't there backstage with them after the final show.

Rush Time Stand Still movie

I'm watching this on Showtime, and I totally get Peart's point about physically not being able to play like he does any more, but no one seems to bring up the option of cutting down the show to 80-90 minutes instead of nearly 3 hours. I don't know a Rush fan who would complain about getting 90 minut...

Nightwish and Nevermore, two very different bands, would have been huge had they both come along a decade sooner.

Best concert I ever saw was a non-metal show. Lords of Acid, KMFDM and Rammstein, making their American debut. Late 1997 in LA. What a fucking show.

Most emotional: Rush in 2002. We all thought they were done after Neil's losses. That was the comeback of the year.
