Re: Skid Row Live in London

The London H.e.a.t live album is indeed excellent. As for this, I'm surprised that they didn't ask Erik to hold off on leaving until after the release. I realize health concerns would have gotten in the way of the four shows that Lzzy did, but he could have said he was sitting them out and she could...

shitty Louisville hair metal festival w/ Queensryche, Great White, Slaughter, LAG

It seems whoever booked Great White and Quiet Riot to play an arena in Anaheim isn't the only dumbass out there... https://www.stadiumrock80s.com/details https://bravewords.com/medias-static/images/news/2024/srmf524.jpeg 2 days in a 15K-cap arena. Yikes. (I do like their "biggest '80s weekend s...

Loaded New Music Friday -- Bon Jovi, Slash, Sambora, Kerry, Friedman...

The heritage rock floodgates certainly opened at midnight! Can't recall ever listening to so much new material back-to-back-to-back. Here are my Jingles-like reviews, in no particular order: Bon Jovi (single) -- perfunctory Richie Sambora (single) -- unremarkable Kerry King (album) -- solid Slash (a...

Seems very ambitious to book this at the Crypt. Much more appropriate for the Greek. Guess it would have gone to Fivepoint if it were still up and running.

As for worst tour, I think Live/STP/Soul Asylum gets my vote over this.

Re: ONE album since 2000

Damn good answer, Ralph (although I might prefer "We Sweat Blood" by a hair). The Darkness' "Permission To Land" is a worthy candidate, but if my house was on fire and I could only snag one album on the way out the door (a silly analogy since I could always just re-buy, but ignor...

I call bullshit on TNT, as you don't need a work visa to perform in int'l waters. Not sure why they'd single out Ronni as well, as even if they did apply for a visa, all of a group's members would have been listed on the same application (meaning, it's an all-for-one / one-for-all kind of situation)...

Images and Metropolis Pt. II are the consensus classics. After that, it's a matter of personal preference. Some of their albums are more metallic, others more progressive. Me, I prefer progressive metal over metallic prog, so I adore Train of Thought, their heaviest album. I didn't care for Systemat...

Re: DUFF MCKAGAN Defends GUNS N' ROSES' Three-And-A-Half-Hour Live Performances: 'What Songs Do You Take Out?'

On one hand, it’s fucking awesome that, in an age where it can easily cost $100 to see a show, there’s a band who plays all night and gives fans their money’s worth, at least in terms of songs per dollar. On the other, there’s a spectacular lack of self-awareness regarding the pacing of the show and...

How does M3 stay in business?

With no Kix, is this finally the year cracks start to show? Booking Queensryche, a HOB-level act, as a headliner seems like a terrible decision for a venue that has 19K seats to fill. Is that really the best they could do? --No special sets (anniversary/full album/etc.) --No new blood (even Monsters...

WIN: Eclipse - "Megalomanium." So many of the bands we love/shit-talk (and love to shit-talk!) here had runs of 2-3 albums, but Eclipse has been on a tear for more than a decade now. I don't think they can put out a bad record. Video for "Got It!" -- https://www.youtube.com/watch...

The Darkness “Permission To Land” 20th anniversary tour

Bailed out of Power Trip to head to Vegas to see this since the tour played L.A. on Friday and I couldn’t be in two places at once. If The Darkness were American, I’d call them a national treasure. International treasure doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, but it’s good enough. I know they play ...

Power Trip is AEG/Goldenvoice, not Wimmer. There is definitely a caste system / haves versus have-nots. If I paid $700 for a GA ticket to sit a mile away and watch on a monitor, I’d have been pissed. The “pit” (open floor in front of the stage) is the prime place to watch. There are floor seats behi...

Two words: Jayne Andrews

Sharon, Doc, Kovac and Rod know how to manage. They’re all big reasons why those bands are where they are today. The same holds true for Jayne.

I'm excited to see AC/DC for what might be the last time. (I was semi-excited to see Ozzy for the same reason, even though it had "potential train wreck" written all over it.) I'm excited to see Maiden and GNR because they're bands I've loved for decades, and even though they're obviously ...

Re: Ozzy cancels Power Trip - who will replace him?

Priest definitely fits aesthetically, but they’re also a downgrade compared to Ozzy. The model seemed to be one stadium band, one arena band. Priest is neither. Regardless, I wish they’d be on the same day as Maiden and that Axl and Ac/DC were on the same day. Outside of RRHOF, this will surely be P...

Re: Streaming ruined the Billboard singles charts. It's all pointless now.

I'd argue that streaming ruined the album charts far more since streams are weighted much more heavily than sales. The singles charts used to be based on a mix of radio airplay (which is essentially bought and paid for) and sales (remember cassingles?), kind of like how the MTV Top 20 Countdown was ...
