Phenomena - any fans?

Studio project by Mel Galley's brother Tom. They had some amazing musicians on those albums. Glenn Hughes handled the vocals on the first album. Second one had a bunch of guest singers like Ray Gillen, John Wetton. Third album was pretty much 21 Guns with a different singer. No really brilliant albu...

Do you want another Ozzy studio album?

Supposedly he's working on one. Last record had a bunch of good songs so I'd be excited to hear new stuff. If it means autotuning the shit out of it to get a decent vocal out of him, so be it.

Re: Falling out of love with music?

As many said, hard to get into new acts... funny enough its easier to enjoy non-metal newbies these days. Anyway, the trick is to discover or re-discover older bands... For the past 5 years or so I've been digging' into the discographies of bands I had quite a superficial knowledge of (maybe owning...

Re: Falling out of love with music?

I have done very little music listening over the past months. Plenty of records out there I haven't heard yet, but I feel like it's all the same. I've tried exploring other genres but that didn't last too long.

Decent song. If I didn't know who was playing guitar I'd think it was Zakk.

Re: R.I.P. Mark Spiro…Any fans?

I'm going through his discography and I wasn't aware he wrote for so many pop artists. He was hardly limited to rock. He had a hand in most of the songs on the Giant debut. I really love that album so he has my respect for that. Anyway, I'll be giving this a spin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=app...

Re: We don't talk nearly enough about Savage Amusement

The peak of hair metal gloss. It was their Crazy Nights. (And Crazy World was their Hot in the Shade. A whole lot of meh with a big hit power ballad to save it.) Crazy World was even worse than SA. I got off the train there. I just couldn't see eye to eye with the band anymore. Wiki states the foll...

This is such a great record. Never got the hate for it. Some excellent deep cuts like Every Minute Everyday, Media Overkill and Walking on the Edge.

Stet Howland

What's up with him not playing on a lot of WASP albums? He had a long tenure in the band, but Blackie always seemed to go back to Frankie Banali for recording. Couldn't Stet cut it in the studio or what?

Re: RIP ... James Kottak, Dead at 61.

In memoriam, I always loved this clip of him from his brief and forgotten stint in Dio. He played the SHIT out of this song, to the point where I almost wonder if Dio was getting annoyed with him overplaying, but man, his pocket is enormous and some of the fills are just phenomenal... https://www.y...

Re: Warrant Ultraphobic Tour

Because Jani was a miserable drunk and addict chasing trends in hopes the masses would still accept him as hair metal’s John Lennon. Sadly this has some truth to it. I thought the classic 3 Warrant albums were natural progressions. Dog Eat Dog was an obvious attempt to be more mature but it still s...

Jason Bieler has always come across like a dick....... "The Lizard" has a some really good stuff on it, but the album is brought down by the instrumentals and joke songs. Band probably would have done better if they came out a year later and were lumped in with the "Grunge scene"...

Love the Jizz. My band opened for Love-Hate on the Blackout tour in a small club. Had beers in their dressing room, despite being 19. Club owner flipped his shit and Jizz told him that he'd take care of it. We continued drinking. Even then you could tell he had more on the ball than most dudes in r...

What's your take on The Smashing Pumpkins?

Over the years, I've listened to some of their songs and I didn't think too much of it. I gave it another try today and I really dig it. Cherub Rock, Disarm, 1979, ... great tunes. Is this change because I'm in my mid 30s now?

He has his moments. I can't think of too many standout solos, but the one in Trippin on a Hole in a Paper Heart still blows me away.

Or, the bass player is out of key; depending on how you look at it.

The two instruments are playing in a discordant fashion.
Can't you hear it's jazz man? Allan Holdsworth doesn't hold a candle to this.

I'd heard plenty of times what a great movie it was. Then I watched it. Was this supposed to be a comedy? I didn't laugh a single time. What a piece of shit movie. I can't imagine they made an 11 season running series out of this crap.

I believe it took longer for me to finally get around to listening to this album than for Axl to make and release it. Finally listened to most of it last Saturday. That already says a lot about my opinion, I guess. I think I have 2 or 3 songs left, but I haven't felt inclined to finish it so I can'...

Re: Best Bassists that AREN'T Slap/Poppers or Funk

If we're talking in general, I'd say James Jamerson, Paul McCartney, John Entwistle are up there. Sludge bands: Geezer, Bob Daisley. Most of the best dudes came from the 60s and 70s. Everyone in rock started dumbing it down massively in the 80s. And then you had dudes like Steve Harris and Billy She...
