Re: Best 'heavier direction' CD

How could we forget Judas Priest, "Painkiller," following the twin shitshows of "Turbo" and "Ram it Down?" Because Turbo was a top 3 Priest album. Turbo stunk. Painkiller was terrible. Terrible is a bit harsh but it's very average. Much better than Ram It Down which I ...

Because it was fucking great.
Well, it didn't outsell Adrenalize, Balance or Keep the Faith, all follow-ups to huge albums that have been described as "bombs" here at one point or another.

That band epitomized ‘gay’. All that hip thrusting in stuffed day-glo spandex and knee pads. Next level queer. In a thread a year ago or so some of us argued that the videos from EEAS were done as a parody of 80s metal with all cliches turned up to 11. Is that a typo or is Dave Sabo's real last name Szabo?
I think it is. I recall he has Hungarian ancestry. Or at least his family's real name, they may have changed it before he was born as it is not in his profile on Wikipedia.

Re: Skid Row Rehearsal Video from 1991

I gained a lot of respect for Skid Row because of Slave To The Grind. Out of all the bands at that time they could have cashed in HUGE if they put out a pop-metal album with wimpy ballads. Instead they put out ... a pop punk album with THREE power ballad singles. That's 90s Aerosmith and Scorpions ...

I don't doubt Dave started pulling shit like the tape on the stage with Skyscraper. I think Sheehan's timeline is off. The Skyscraper tour still seemed like a band having fun onstage and Vai was all over the place, triple neck guitar and all. Then on the ALAE tour it was DLR doing Monkey Hour (tm) ...

As CEO stated, Skids were untouchable during this point of their lives. The band is heavy and aggressive, no similar band in that genre could even sniff this intensity. The problem is, and it became obvious on this tour, they only had songs for one album and one single. Most songs from STTG were bl...

Manowar with Ross the Boss and Donnie Hamzik. They went from brilliant metal albums like Fighting the World and Kings of Metal, to pretentious crap like Triumph of Steel and Gods of War after Ross left.

PI$$ Without a doubt, all planned out since the late 70s. Also DLR in VH Dickinson and Halford tend to say more or less the same thing every night too. Ozzy's "let's all go fucking crazy" and "we love you all" are probably not that planned but that's all he's capable to say whil...

I also want to add my vote that Judas Priest's spangly, blingey leathery outfits do not look cool and in fact look ridiculous on elderly men. I think 1984 was the last year that they look sorta cool..... 1984 was the first time they crossed the line and looked cartoonish and not dangerous. The Turb...

I saw that lineup of Whitesnake live at Day On The Green 1987 and they kicked ass! I was very impressed! An album with them recorded after that tour also would have been killer! Is there any hard rock or metal band that did a good album with a symphony? Metallica and Kiss don't seem that bad but not great either. And Leppard and Scorps blow.

I'll admit the part about Lonnie living in the trailer park and his dad making them bologna sandwiches moved me. That's how it was growing up for us, and I think that's the story of most American rock bands from back in the day. There was the occasional Roth, Tom Scholz, etc, but most guys in bands...
