Speaking of lower priced Gibsons, anyone tried these before?

I cant say I need it...but I have a thing for p90s and trashy tv yellow slabs...and for $429.00, it's pretty tempting....

Haven't tried one of these Melody Makers..but hell, 2 p90's?

It's a LP Special with a single volume/tone and a goofy pickguard with a top-mount jack...aesthetics aside, it should be a screamer.

Under $500? Snap it up and be happy...put it into a good amp, MAYBE toss a fuzztone (Modtone's Buzz Boy is a real gem)in the chain...and let'er rip.

Don't know if this has been mentioned... Warmoth is no longer offering any Gibson-style bodies due to Gibby's legal poopoo. No more LP, SG, Explorer, V, Firebird and so on. They're still allowed to sell any current stock in the Showcase, but when those are gone, that's it.

Gibson is sooooooooo in debt. The company is virtually bankrupt.

Man, I've looked at these things at the guitar shop and they just seem so fucking janky to me. The finish looks brushed on with a toothbrush, the bridge and tuners are so bush league it's ridiculous. It's a damn shame how people get so foogabooed by simply having the name Gibson on the headstock. I wouldn't give 50 bucks for one of those.

That is correct, but it's the name that gets the price. An AXL Bulldog is probably better quality wise.

I guess that's probably true. The name does matter though, there is an inherent value to it. That Bulldog is definitely a decent guitar but like it or not it'll never have the cache that Gibson does.

Absolutely. The Bulldog had a Lindy Fralin and is set up better, so for utility purposes, score one for AXL. Resale? All Gibson.

New amp day...Peavey ValveKing 112 combo, $250.

Got it on a deal from a friend...it's been hot-rodded a bit and seen some upgrades(GT preamp and 6L6-R Gold-series power tubes, not certain on the breakup number), Celestion 70/80 speaker in place of the shitty stock speaker, lead channel mods and disabled that shitty "texture" knob on the back).

Almost grabbed up a Gibson MelodyMaker, L&M is blowing them out at $299.
New bridge, pickups and tuning heads add up though.
Instead I settled on a few straps.

It's an Alembic, similar to Jerry Garcia's guitar, or inspired by it, just a lower cut and yea, their guitars start around six grand. Save your pennies.
