Your top 3 from Ratt's Detonator

Postby vagabond » Sun Mar 19, 2017 7:36 am

Hard Time came up on random shuffle yesterday; what a great freaking underrated song! Although the album was a huge disappointment way back in 1990 when it was released, it does have its redeeming qualities, as One Step Away and Givin' Yourself Away are top shelf Ratt songs too.

I've got no issue with this record at all, I'm sure it only gets bagged on as much as it does because of the Desmond Child factor.

Easily the equal of Dancing Undercover or Reach For The Sky

LMAO.

but seriously. it's definitely "War in D/Shame/Lovin' You", then the rest of the album falls off a cliff.

lol ru kidding me? they were on life support at that point and boarded the Desmobile 2 years too late in a vain attempt to try and save their rapidly failing career.

Your opinion. For me, they could do little wrong even then. I may be just a tad biased, though, since Ratt are in my top ten bands of all-time...

more than a tad. if the record company didn't beg Beau Hill to bolt "Way Cool Jr." onto RftS, that album's a bigger flop than Detonator was.

Top Secret is my 2nd fave (after Shame Shame Shame). Love the Euro-metal, Schenker-type riffing. May have been better on Collage with an extra "C" part added. Surprised that many fans don't like it.

Nah, I love "I Want a Woman", "City to City", "What's It Gonna Be", "I Want to Love You Tonight", etc. Granted the original recordings/songs for that one were without Beau Hill and sounded horrible, but once they got Beau back on board the album everything was cool. Yeah, it was more of the same like what was on the previous albums, but I still like it.

I personally think this album was about 2 years too late. They went for that polished DR FEELGOOD sound that worked for the CRUE. Its almost like they just missed the boat every release, WAY COOL JR would've prob did better in '90 than 1988 like Heartbreak Station's stripped feel.

Top Secret had been around since the Mickey Ratt days, and finally made it on to Detonator. I'm guessing it's a demo version from some time prior....I'd have to dig thru my old demos to figure out the when part, but I agree, I like the raw sound and mix better on the version you posted.

Yes, it would have been a bigger album in 1988.
