Sleaze Roxx: On Jack [Russell] indicating that it was only until ‘Once Bitten…’ that people got to hear what he really sounded like. Russell went on to say that Alan Niven asked him to sing as “Jack Evil.”

Alan Niven: That is complete bullshit. ‘Jack Evil’ was an exhortation from Michael Wagener. I asked for 'Jack Washup'. By the way, Michael Lardie, Kendall and I were the producers on ‘Once Bitten.’ We were the ones who brought out the qualities of his voice [laughs]!”

That was a good interview. Always wanted to know more about the mysterious Allen Niven that was all over the writing credits of GW albums back in the day. He's not wrong that Psycho City was their best album. There is some angry rock n roll on that disc! I also liked Sail Away. A bit of a departure, but still some good tunes.

I look forward to "Jack Russell responds to Alan Niven responding to Jack Russell. Followed of course by "Alan Niven responds to Jack Russell responding to Alan Niven responding to Jack Russell." This could go on for years.

Every time I read the story about Jack Russell fucking up the band's transition into becoming arena headliners, I cringe.

What a moron.

"You have to consider that neither stations played indie tracks in any rotation whatsoever, then I suppose you might be tempted to think I knew what I was doing and I produced results. The end result was that I managed to get the band resigned even after a debut disaster, with “Face The Day.” "

What was so disastrous about that first album? It's a killer record and they got plenty of radio airplay with Stick It and Substitute...

I imagine they had hoped that it would go platinum? I like that record, Niven isn't much of a fan.

This!!! Good sludge so far.
I’m completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. These two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death.

There has been a documentary about the tour on Finnish tv, from Havana Black's side of things. I might still have it on vhs. It's on Havana Black's dvd also.

I asked him about Havana Black too but that didn't make the cut. I think I will use it for the next one.

Almost unreadable. Site desperately needs someone with basic literacy to edit these messes.

Enjoyed reading about Old Rose Motel, probably my favorite Great White album that only exists in the realm of the imaginary.

Played the Orange Pavilion in March 1990.

Great interview. I always wondered why the band just sorta sputtered to a halt and never regained traction.

Also he was talking about going to a probation hearing at the time. I have no timeline for this but my friend saw a really fucked up Jack Russell at Rock N Roll Denny's drop his pants and get immediately arrested by undercover cops.

GW had good singles but I was unimpressed with Once Bitten and later, Twice Shy as albums. I thought their 1991 release, Hooked was the best release they ever had. I don't think I ever owned Psycho City. That Big Goodbye single was horrendous.

I like Big Goodbye, but there are far better songs on that record. Not a good choice for a single.

Jack will be on Trunk's show on 6.22.17 I wonder if he'll address Niven's comments?

I received an email from Jack's wife the other day asking if I could call her and Jack, they had one question to ask.

I replied if the question is if I will take either Jack's or Alan's interviews down the answer is 'no.'

She replied back 'Okay Thanks.'

That first album smokes! Had some great stuff on it. It's the only one I own now.
