I smoked weed on and off for ~20 years. Would often take weeks and months off, even took a year off at one point. Always went with ‘I’ve never seen anyone lugging an oxygen tank around because they couldn’t stop smoking weed’ and considered it an acceptable-enough vice.

Earlier this year I took January off both drinking and smoking, sang like a bird the whole time, smoked in February, sang like shit the next day. “Oh. It’s almost as if smoking is bad for my voice and me and general.” Took 20 years too long to realize and accept the obvious, but I haven’t inhaled smoke since.
