SLAYER guitarist Kerry King will release his debut solo album, "From Hell I Rise", on May 17.
Vocals: DEATH ANGEL singer Mark Osegueda
Guitar: Kerry King
Guitar: Ex-MACHINE HEAD and VIO-LENCE guitarist Phil Demmel
Bass: Former HELLYEAH bassist Kyle Sanders
Drums: Last SLAYER drummer Paul Bostaph
"From Hell I Rise" contains 13 tracks that were recorded with longtime LAMB OF GOD producer Josh Wilbur.
King told Rolling Stone that the title track, "From Hell I Rise", is one of two songs — along with "Rage" — on the album that he has carried over from SLAYER's "Repentless" sessions. "It was finished, we recorded it," he says. "I wasn't happy with the performance part of it, so I was like, 'All right, I'll put this in my back pocket until the next SLAYER record.' And that didn't happen, so it's now on my record."
Asked why he decided to call his band KERRY KING, the guitarist said: "I didn't. It was going to be KING'S REIGN for a long time, which is really cool. But even with that one, I went to the guys, like, 'I'm not a vain dude. I don't want my name to be a part of it.' We talked about BLOOD REIGN for a while, but it didn't work. Every time I came up with anything remotely cool, it was taken by some obscure band in Eastern Europe. It became KERRY KING because I love that logo."

Re: KERRY KING: Single, lineup and album release date
OK, so it's Slayer with a vocalist who's not Tom but doing a reasonable impersonation, and it's light on the "dying horse"guitar solos. I like that song more than a lot of later Slayer. Let's see if that lasts a full album.

It's ok...nothing great...I give it a 6.66 out of 10 satanic Kerries.

I dig it... Slayer fans should like it.
Nah, they'll probably bitch about it. We are in the Nobody Appreciates Anything Era, after all.

Meh. King was the weak link in Slayer.

That's as close to Slayer as you're gonna get. I'm actually shocked at how close they got. They could easily play Slayer covers on the road - Basically, resurrecting Slayer, Kerry's goal all along.

Re: KERRY KING: Single, lineup and album release date
Not great but not bad at all. It does sound exactly like 2000s Slayer, and Osegueda here sounds a lot like shouty late era Araya.
I expect Repentless p. II..kind of meh. But the record is only an excuse to tour and play classic Slayer

Are they not calling this Slayer just so they don't have to pay Tom a cut?
Because this is Slayer.
Because this is Slayer.
Re: KERRY KING: Single, lineup and album release date
It seems kinda weird when guitar players come out with solo albums with songs without them singing. I guess calling it Kerry King is more marketable than a new band name.
Not everybody is on MetalShit.com and Blabberface fuckin’ dot net! Who cares? There’s such a small amount of people that do that. - Blotz

They’re definitely “going for it”… whatever that... I’m just glad it’s not boring.

Re: KERRY KING: Single, lineup and album release date
Yeah, I mean, it's pretty close. Kerry said in the interview he hasn't talked to Tom in 5 years, so I can imagine the last thing he wanted to do was deal with all the business BS. This way he can go out and play Slayer songs, and not have to get anything approved, and everyone knows that's what it is.FreddyFender wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 9:32 am Are they not calling this Slayer just so they don't have to pay Tom a cut?

Also, Mark is a better choice for singing that stuff than Phil Anselmo, so it's good that things worked out the way they did. I don't want to hear Kerry try to play any of Dime's parts, even if it's just rhythm. Also, opens the door for Kerry possibly opening for Pantera on a double bill once they're done opening for Metallica this year.

Re: KERRY KING: Single, lineup and album release date
I guess it just surprises me because Kerry King solo is going to get a guarantee of about... what... 20% of what Slayer would pull? 33% at the most? There will be some fanfare when they first go out, but without the Slayer brand its hard to see this succeeding. is Kerry willing to operate at the level of Vio-lence? Jason Newsted found out the hard way that it aint easy starting over.Anthrax442 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 12:11 pmYeah, I mean, it's pretty close. Common sense would suggest Kerry just pay Tom to sit at home, the way Journey pays Steve Perry.
Hell, I can't help but think of Static X in this situation: towards the end, Wayne and Tony hated each other as much as two guys possibly could, yet they STILL were able to work out an agreement for Wayne to pay Tony for use of Static X.
I guess either Tom can't stand Kerry enough that he would refuse to let the rest of the guys tour as Slayer, or Kerry would rather shoot himself in the foot to pay Tom to sit at home.

Re: KERRY KING: Single, lineup and album release date
Been listening to it a number of times now. I like it.
Obviously it sounds a lot like Slayer, but it's continuation of it. And as others have said, I like this song better than most of what Slayer released towards the end.

Great lineup.
The video's visuals were disappointing.
The song is absolutely incredible!
I listened to it several times, it's quality and creativity.
I am really glad King is back and am looking forward to the new release and catching many of their live shows.

Sounds like a Slayer cover band, which is another way of saying it sucks.

unlike Mick Mars, he's doing the smart thing.
Giving his fans exactly what they want.

He's got Mustaine levels of bitterness going on. I guess being a trash talker is part of his schtick, but it's not really a good look when you're pushing 60. "Araya won't talk to me" "Lombardo is dead to me" I can understand him wanting to ride Slayer out for another 10 years but it seemed obvious to everyone except maybe him that it had been diminishing returns for a while. Maybe it's a blow to the ego that he has to start over to an extent and open for bands that once opened for him, but on the other hand he's Kerry Fucking King, Metal royalty. Sit back and enjoy it every once in a while.

The set will be 90% slayer for sure...This 1 new song and that's it...because it's what people want to hear...Neil Diamond Dave wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 6:57 am That's as close to Slayer as you're gonna get.
