Re: Richie Kotzen - Cheap Shots
Coming from a fan, I would tend to agree that much of his more recent stuff does. Used to vary from release to release a bit more. I still like most of what I hear from him, regardless. But some of it doesn't stay in my active playlists that long.

I was hoping this would be about him taking some cheap shots at Poison.

Solid tune.
I bought "Slow" back in the early 2000s and have been a fan ever since.
His music is just amazing, but he has a lot of similarities to Prince and one of them is that he writes too many goddamn songs. When you play all the instruments, write all the songs, sing, and produce all your stuff its going to get a little tired.
He badly needs a producer to both give some variety to his sound and weed out some of the material. All of his records since "Get Up" have had a very similar "Faces-meets-Funk" sound. SO many great songs like "Walk With Me", "Bad Situation", "Cannibals" sound pretty mediocre on the records and then you hear them live with the band and they blow you away.
I'm a huge fan but I've never listened to "50" and never will. 50 goddamn songs?

That was my first thought too but I slowly shifted through them and there are some great songs on there. If you like his more pop/r&b flavored stuff, you should definitely listen to More Than This and When Got Made You.FreddyFender wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 1:28 pm I'm a huge fan but I've never listened to "50" and never will. 50 goddamn songs?
Dogs, Pray For Me, Second Page and As You Are are a few of my favorites too!
Anyone who thinks all his songs sound the same, needs to go listen to his Wilson Hawk album.

One of the best players.
I've been a fan since the 1st solo release on Shrapnel.

Like every Kotzen song I have ever heard, I find this completely unmemorable, twiddly and shitty sounding.
Sounds like he could use a songwriter and producer.

Re: Richie Kotzen - Cheap Shots
Agreed. Really liked everything up to "24 Hours", less keen on the recent stuff apart from some of the singles like "The Damned" or "Riot". I guess it's to be expected given how many albums he's released..probably 30+ albums when you add it all up. But he always kills it live and that's more important to me.FreddyFender wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 1:28 pm Solid tune.

I thought it was a “cheap shot” when he nailed his drummer’s fiance’.
