Only thing I know about Reverend guitars is that Kid Rock endorses them, or did, and that I've heard a number of players say they play well and sound good. The models I've seen were based on Strat and Tele designs and I didn't really care for the look of them, but I've never seen their Vs. That Dillion posted above looks good too, nice take on the old Korina Flying Vs.

Believe it or not, Agile makes some cool Vs, a few different designs. Go to eBay and search for "Agile" under Guitars: Electric and 4 pages of Agiles will come up, everything from Strats, LPs, SGs to Vs. They'll all be from Rondo Music. You can go to their website and look further, they also sell SX and Douglas guitars. The Agiles are made in Korea, the SX and Douglas guitars are made in China and are cheaper, the prices will definitely reflect that.

I actually thought of getting a Douglas Hornet, it's a bolt-neck King V copy, with a different headstock shape, looks pretty cool and is only $139.95 plus $23 shipping. Way cheaper than the cheapest LTD V-100 or the Jackson JS30-KV which are gonna go about $299 plus shipping and are made to about the same standards. Of course it doesn't have a LTD or Jackson logo, but I don't really care about that. They have set-neck Rhoads copies with pinstriping for $139.95. For a set-neck guitar that's cheap.

I'd look around a bunch, you went to the guitar show and didn't cave to the impulse buy so you've got willpower. Now the Agile stuff from Rondo you aren't gonna find in retail stores, they are mail-order only, kinda an importer's version of what Carvin does domestically. But I KNOW from innumerable reviews at the JCF forum that the Agiles are realy great bang for the buck, and those Jackson/Charvel fans are some picky fuckers! If they say they're good, they are! I don't know their return policy but I'm sure it's on their site or you could cal them.

Remember, half the fun is in the search, so have fun searching!

For anyone looking at Flying Vs....I have a Gibson Faded Flying V with the three pickup config....Got it used for 450 and I'll tell you now, it kills...Everything about it is great...Most of the Gibson "faded" series guitars were crap - except the V...It's mahogany and has awesome pickups...One of the best guitars I own...

I haven't personally, but Alex Lifeson uses them and I like the tones he gets with them. Then again he has sounded good with everything from Marshalls to Hiwatts to GK so who knows? He doesn't exactly go for a really metal sound per se either, but he's the only guy I can think of who uses them.
Tommy Thayer is also a Hughes & Kettner user if I'm not mistaken.

Reverend Guitars are excellent, obviously you have to play them to see if they fit you but quality is excellent and they're a cool company too. They have a really happening bass contour control to roll bottom on or off. Seemed to really work well with P-90's.

I've had a few Dillion's 2 were great, 2 were not. The V was killer, I have played a few and they were all really good. The Gibby Faded V's are generally really good no doubt, totally slipped my mind. Easy guitars to mod the way the pickguards are set up.

No shit, I want the white one with pearloid pickguard! And they're CHEAP too!

I also might build myself a Rhoads copy using their parts. Fuck, the neck and body are only $100 together! Consider an RR24 sells for $1100, I can build a bolt-neck equivalent for under $300 with Guitarfetish parts.

Sure I'd rather have the Jackson, but I could build one for just over 1/4 the cost, you really can't beat that.

Toro,

I like that Guiterrez...I love that style of body too. Are those $$$?

Also, can a $179 guitar sound good? That F hole tele looks great, but that price makes me wonder what the deal is. Anyone have one?

The deal is that is what guitars made in Asia SHOULD retail for, but everyone else jacks the prices wayyy up and guitarfetish doesn't.

Keep that in mind the next time you see a Made in Asia Epiphone, Squier, Electromatic or Eastwood (the worst offender!) going over $500.

He's doing a lot of fairly affordable stuff (as far has USA / handmade goes). He's a brilliant builder and has a new "bolt-thru" design coming soon.

His email is [email protected] and he can send you some info and links!

The LP-esque on on the bottom...is that a mahogany neck-thru with Maple body?

NICE!

Still on the amp "chase"(sing that one to the tune of Blackfoot's "Fox Chase")......my buddy doing the Mace resto-mod and 4x12 cab(we covered the 2x12 Peavey cab, built and covered the homemade 4x12 cab Sunday) snatched up a Peavey Heritage 2x12 combo at one of his old pawn-shop haunts(guy wanted $189, buddy bullshitted him down to $125).

Still in great shape, minus the foot-switch(some guy on eBay builds new switches)......re-coned Black Widows.....for a solid-state pre-amp and tube power amp(4 6L6GC's I think), that thing sounds pretty good. Motherfucker is LOUD.....volume on 5 1/2 still has my ears ringing 18 hours later.

Doesn't quite have the "crunch" of the Marshall that I had long ago, but that could be addressed....may have to seriously consider this one.

Those old Maces are a great platform for runnning a preamp or a modeling processor through the power amp in. 4 6L6GCs will give you great warmth but you aren't gonna get any modern gains out of the Peavey's SS preamp. You might try a Vox Tonelab ST, theyt are only $199 and generate tube warmth through a 12AX7. You get models that range from Fender and Vox to Marshall and Mesa. The Tonelab SE offers more flexibility at $399, same price as the PD XT Live. The POD has more features and models, the Tonelab is said to have better tone though.

Or you could use it with old-fashioned pedals too, but a SS preamp doesn't usually take those as well as a tube preamp does. I'd run the Peavey's preamp as clean as I could get it if I went this route. With a processor like I decribed above, I'd just run the processor into the amp's effects return or power amp in and bypass the amp controls entirely.

Jim, do us all a favor(okay, for ME)....next time you're near that korina/wenge Gutierrez LP, plug in and put it through it's paces....I'd almost let Punk club me with a seal's skull just to play that thing!

Lerx.....I've decided to pass on the Heritage. It's a good amp, GREAT clean sounds....but just doesn't have the low-end response, warmth and bite I'm looking for. I could go the route you suggested with a different pre-amp, but hell......better to get a pure tube amp and be done with it.

I think you've got the right idea. My advice about that Peavey was coming from the place of IF you wanted that amp, that'd be the way to get the best sound out of it.
