Bought this, plays awesome, but I'm gonna sell it. It's actually Lake Placid Blue. 1980 DiMarzio/Charvel solid rosewood neck / ash body.

I did a photo shoot(which I'll post here later tonight) of some other kickass guitars, but the one that caught my eye and my soul was the new Fender EVH Wolfgang. Without a doubt, the greatest feeling guitar that's ever been in my hands. As good as it felt, it sounded even better. This particular model was the tobacco sunburst.

Has anyone played or own one of these? I'm taking a wedding photo gig so I can at least make a few bucks to get me closer to buying it. I've been having erotic dreams about it...is that wierd?

Mike Learn is the man! He posts at the JCF forums from time to time too, great guy! I can't see the link though, it says "content currently unavailable". I'll check back, but look forward to your pics too! To say you built it under his tutelage is even better than ordering a custom alone! Do you intend to become a builder?
Try this link to view the build... hopefully this one works.

Getting ready to tear it down, do some final sanding and have Mike paint it. No real intentions on becoming a builder (although its kind of addicting and might have to do another one)...just something I have always wanted to do. Your right Mike is a great guy!

Still not sure on a 'bucker for my Charvel San Dimas. I really am considering a Super Distortion - anyone have any favorable experiences with one in this application?

Came stock with a JB - that is my least favorite Duncan pickup. I know they're similar in some regard but I think I like the crunch of the Super Distortion more.

GC is selling these for $29.99. Inside, there's a switch that really makes it scream. You have to take the whole board out to see the switch (upper left), but it makes it scream!!!

I just picked up an Alvarez Yairi DY76 acoustic 12 string. I sold a Taylor 6 string I didn't like anymore and actually paid less for the Alvarez Yairi, and the AY is something I'll actually USE, so... good deal. Anyway, it sounds awesome. Recently a friend brought over his Ovation 12 string that he paid a thousand bucks for a few years ago... I paid half as much for my guitar, and my guitar sounds SO much better!

Does it add more gain? And is it kinda like an SD-1 or Tube Screamer?

The initial pedal is much like a Distortion+/Tube Screamer... flip the switch and you get more gain/control!

Got a question for you guys:
A guy I know has been offering to sell me a double-cut Les Paul like this one. It's in pristine condition and plays like a dream. I would prefer to find a regular Les Paul but it's hard to resist the sound and action on this one. The extra frets are a good bonus too. I have little peeves like the gold hardware; overall the guitar is not aesthetically my style, it's more bright orange in color than this one and the figuring in the wood is so eye-popping that the damn thing almost looks like a piece of candy instead of a guitar.

1. What do you think is an appropriate price?
2. Do you ever balk at a great guitar because it looks kinda funny/unappealing to you?
3. Anybody have experience with one of these and is the p/u switch location awkward (I'm used to it being on the top)?

Well, you are used to that double-cut Ibanez Artist, so a double cut should suit you well. Those only listed for about $1500 new, in Musicians Friend mags they were about $1,000 LESS than a LP Standard. Offer him $1,000 based on that and see what he says. But ultimately it's worth what you're willing to give. Check Ebay and see if any have sold lately. They aren't that common though, but sometimes "rare" just means nobody cared.

I personally think those guitars look great, but I've always liked double cutaways better. I don't play my LP Standard that much because of the clunky neck joint. Bending high D to E is sort of ungainly. You won't have that problem with the double cut.

As for the position of the switch, while I haven't played that model, I played an SG for years with the switch in pretty much the same place. You'll easily get used to it.

I think he wants $1200. I want to pay more like $1000. This guy is weird about price. He typically wants to see if you want it bad enough and then tries to reneg on the price. That's another reason I may end up passing on it. Just cuz he's kind of a dick.
Check Ebay and see if any have sold lately. They aren't that common though, but sometimes "rare" just means nobody cared.
I'm not concerned with rarity at all. They're hard to search on ebay cuz they mostly get listed as just an LP Standard.
I personally think those guitars look great, but I've always liked double cutaways better.
I kinda like that too. The playability and sound of it are totally the selling points. He doesn't know what kind of pickups are in it but it screams. It's something way better and hotter than burstbuckers for sure.

Yeah, I don't mean rarity from the viewpoint of you wanting it, I mean if he tries to tout the rarity of it in holding out, just say that it's because they didn't catch on, which is true as can be.

I usually see them listed as Les Paul DC, but you will also get a bunch of TVs and other LP variations with that search. Good point if you don't want to wade through 2500 Les Paul listings on Ebay though....

I think $1,000 is certainly fair, and again, they streeted from MF at around $1500, maybe $1599. OTOH, if it's really sweet, it's likely worth the $1200. A regular Standard made in the last 20 years goes for about $1500 used in good shape. I would personally rather have the 24-fret DC, but on the other hand it is less desirable in the market as a whole.

If you don't think he'll sell it for $1200 locally, hold out or meet him in the middle. If you really want it and it's sweet, might be worth biting the bullet. You probably won't come across another that you can try in person and know you dig for years. Gibsons ARE spotty on QC, if this one screams...

Worse case and you don't your AR-50 is still a Les Paul killer, it just says Ibanez and not Gibson but those are sweet fucking guitars! I wouldn't let that one go regardless!
