If I remember, I'll post pics of the fender FSR tele I bought, decided I hated the color and stripped.

With the temperature dropping, I was tweaking the neck on this Les Paul today
This is probably my favorite guitar. It's a '94 that found me when it was left behind in a rehearsal space I took over. The headstock was almost completely snapped off and the frets were practically worn to the board in places. Clamped it, glued it, refretted it with Stew Mac 154s. Plays like a dream now, but is essentially retired due to the fact that between the aftermarket Grovers, Vibramate, and Bigsby (all my additions) it must weigh damn near 15 lbs. and is a bitch to gig with beyond a few songs.
The one of the left is an el cheapo Dan Electro baritone with some fun, if cheesy, on-board effects.

I picked up one of my holy grail things over the weekend:
Supposedly, there are plenty in Britain, but you never see them here.
Unless you are a complete nerd, you don't know this amp....but this is the one Andy Scott from Sweet used...channel 2 is him. Channel 1 is Wilko Johnson, as this was his classic Dr. Feelgood amp.
Marc Bolan used these, too, and the tremelo part on "One of these Days" by Pink Floyd was one of these.
It's sort of one of those "best-kept-secret" sort of things.

That's some purty grain. I vaguely remember these with the stock flipped control plate. Is it truly reversed with the tone pot on top or did they rewire it as volume-tone-switch configuration?Sleek wrote:

The fender Fullerton factory in 1959.
Crazy what those guitars are worth now considering the amount of eyeballing went into their construction.

I have the same guitar in a 2012. I love the Vintage Blonde but your stripdown looks prett sweet.poisonheart wrote:Speaking of Teles, I recently picked up a 2015 American Special (Dunlop 6105s and CS staggered polepiece Texas Specials) on ebay for a very nice price but hated the lame recreation of a 60s "Vintage Blonde" finish, especially as mismatched with a 50s era (but 8 hole) pickguard.
Refinished to a dirty hippie 70s natural finish. Even though it's an Alder body with minimal grain I think it came out pretty nicely.

That Epi is indeed a work of art. I never like Epiphone headstocks but that one is off the charts cool. Very nice!Mojo wrote:Thanks! Still loving it.

Thanks. I like Epiphone's 30's and 40's headstocks much more than the longer ones they're using today. This one:sirthx wrote:That Epi is indeed a work of art. I never like Epiphone headstocks but that one is off the charts cool. Very nice!Mojo wrote:Thanks! Still loving it.
The one on my acoustic there is a pretty faithful recreation of a limited run they used on some 30's acoustics. I like it a lot, and the inlay is done really well.

I love Epis....
My main rule with them is that they are great guitars except when they are trying to be something else, like, Rivieras are great, Epi Flying Vs aren't.
This is my latest one. It is a 1962 Sheraton 50th anniversary reissue. These are made overseas, but with American Gibby pickups and full CTS pots, stock Grovers, etc. and of course, it was a limited edition of 1,962 guitars.
I got it a couple months ago, and it has become my go-to guitar for anything that isn't metal. Plays great, sounds great and IT IS SO FUCKING PURDY.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
This is exactly how I feel. Epiphones are great when it's actually an Epiphone, but I'd feel odd playing an Epi version of a Gibson. I'd rather have a blatantly off brand version of a Gibson than an Epi version. At least the off brand will have some character and originality while the Epi version just looks like I can't afford a Gibson.Sleek wrote:My main rule with them is that they are great guitars except when they are trying to be something else, like, Rivieras are great, Epi Flying Vs aren't.
That Sheraton is gorgeous. Have you played it with an AC/DC type lighter gain? Any feedback issues? Also, is Bigsby a knockoff?

No feedback issues. Sheratons are semi-hollow, with the center block, not full hollow like a Casino.
The Bigsby is Chinese. I put it on myself. They want $200 for the Bigsby "licensed by" import version in gold $240 for the "proper" version.
This one was $34. Bigsby's aren't rocket surgery, lol.
I pretty much always use it with medium distortion. I do a Tom Petty cover band with it, and this all originals seventies style band I am in called The Brutalists. Both are just-a-little-distorted guitar sounds.
Here it is in action a few weeks back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNIKstK10Yw

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I'll check out the video after work tonight.
My guitars usually come stock with a Bigsby, so I haven't ever had to purchase one. But I don't like the B7, anyway. I'm primarily a Gretsch player, and they use the B6C V-cut, so that's what I'm used to.
I'm considering buying a cheap Gretsch Pro-Jet Electromatic and putting a Floyd Rose on it, just because I've never seen a Gretsch with one, and it'd be fun.

The reason my dislike started was only because of the LPs. Seeing an LP at a glance then quickly going to the headstock to see that it isn't a Gibson just kills me. Well aware that Epi LPs are serious bang for the buck, the headstock just looks like ass on an LP. Just my opinion of course as others certainly disagree. Again, your headstock is perfect. Your acoustic screams vintage. Like it was made in the 30s, never played and found in a case that had never been opened.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Totally agree. I'd rather take that money and buy something that's not a rip-off. I mean, I don't fault anyone for owning an Epiphone Gibson, and some of the ones I've played seemed great. But I'd rather have something that doesn't feel like it's trying to be something else. When I was younger, it would have meant much more to have something that looked as close to what my idols played as possible. Now, I'm all about originality and vibe.sirthx wrote: The reason my dislike started was only because of the LPs. I have a couple Gretsches with the licensed Bigsby. This one is every bit as good...probably the same factory, the way things are now.Mojo wrote:I'll check out the video after work tonight.

I mean, I modify all of them a little, grinding the thing the bar goes into so I can have it up closer to the playing position and putting in stiffer springs.
The only thing I'd like is a longer arm, but that goes for all of my Bigsby guitars. They are out there, but they go for $30-$60, which is ridiculous. It's a $1 piece of steel!

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I got a longer spring for $5 off of eBay, not too long ago. I can get some semblance of dive bombing, not that I ever really want to. Not my playing style, but it's fun to dive into chords for that spanky rockabilly sound. And yeah, anything to do with them is expensive, usually. Gretsch is making their newer models with holes for the strings to make restringing easier. I never found restringing to be all that challanging. Just bend the string with pliers and it stays on the peg just fine. But I guess the holes are nice feature if you break a string live.
