My bandmates demeaningly refer to it as a "gaypo", so it's apt.Mojo wrote:Y'all capo?

I'm sorry but a ukulele with a capo seems like it would sound super incredibly gay.
Topic shift: I need a good compressor. What's the best one you all have used?

I reach for a capo at least once a week to bang out Harrison stuff. Here Comes the Sun, My Sweet Lord etc. Couple Audioslave songs I really like to play use a capo as well.Mojo wrote:Y'all capo?

Why? Just makes the pitch higher. Besides, I go for weird. I run a uke through a mellotron box.exitflagger wrote:I'm sorry but a ukulele with a capo seems like it would sound super incredibly gay.

I've tried to get along with them for decades, but have just sort of decided that they are bullshit.
I had a jangle box for a while with my electric 12 and kind of liked it. Dumped it when I realized the guitar sounded better without.
I have an MXR super comp somewhere that I'll give you for a *very* reasonable price or pedal trade. I bought it like, the fiftieth time where I had the thought:"Gee, I think they are gay, but everybody seems to think compressors are bitchin. I should pick one up. For the fiftieth time."
It is a good box, just gay.

Sounds like he'd be doing you a tremendous favor by taking it from you. Might even qualify as 'a solid'.

That Sheraton sounds great, Sleek. I listened to a couple of tracks and you guys are awesome. It's also good to see guys who aren't in their 20's that still look like they're in a band. And your singer's mom obviously fucked Alice Cooper and Ron Wood, back in the day.

When I think of ukuleles it brings Jason Mraz to mind and makes me slightly homicidal.
As for compressors, I'm just trying to work with a new amp setup and I can't get it to sound the way I want it with just my multi effects unit. Maybe I need an EQ. I dunno.

Well, if you want this thing, I'd trade it for, like, a phase 90 or a volume pedal or something.

I play it like a guitar. Besides strumming, I bend and like to finger pick in a bastardized Carl Perkins style.exitflagger wrote:When I think of ukuleles it brings Jason Mraz to mind and makes me slightly homicidal.

This guy is so criminally underrated. His catalog is fantastic, runs the gamut between country, blues and rock, and he wrote some great lyrics. He was out there playing rocked up versions of country songs before Elvis had even met Sam Phillips, and he gets far too little credit for it.Turner Coates wrote:Carl Perkins

That's so great. I'm completely enamored with Travis picking. I'm pretty decent at it, but there's always more to learn. I still have trouble with Travis picking barre chords, keeping the upper fingers moving with my thumb over the neck. But I do alright.Turner Coates wrote: Check this out....a few years before he passed:

Ukes are on my list, eventually. I'd also like to get into banjo and mandolin. And get better as slide guitar.Turner Coates wrote:Try it on a uke sometime. Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Ukes are SO great. If you play guitar, you already know how to play a uke. It's essentially a guitar missing the two lowest strings and tuned a 4th higher. I approach it like a gut string guitar, rather than a uke, and am still finding new possibilities all the time. Ukes boil everything down to triads, with one extra note to play with. A uke barre chord is a triad with an octave root note added. And figuring out stuff (even stuff with lots of changes) is easy when it's all basically triads. Less is more.Mojo wrote: Ukes are on my list, eventually. I'd also like to get into banjo and mandolin. And get better as slide guitar.

That does sound like it'd be a good composition tool. I'm also a tool, so it's a perfect match.Turner Coates wrote:Ukes are SO great. If you play guitar, you already know how to play a uke. Funny you mention how criminally underrated Carl is (yes) and here's this clip of him KILLING it, so you have an absolute fucking legend, just tearing it up on guitar, and it has 700 views. Meanwhile Beyonce farting into a cup gets 2.5 billion views in 24 hours. Shit ain't right.Mojo wrote:That's so great. I'm completely enamored with Travis picking. I knew things were on the downward road when Madonna humping a stage in a pointy bra was considered to be a more important "musical" event than anything Aretha Franklin ever did.sirthx wrote: Funny you mention how criminally underrated Carl is (yes) and here's this clip of him KILLING it, so you have an absolute fucking legend, just tearing it up on guitar, and it has 700 views. Bought another Chibson, this time a LP Custom black beauty. Still trying to get the neck perfect, I think I'm gonna have to level the frets...... but it looks great.
I also traded for a JCM 900 & 1960 cab. I'm looking for an over drive pedal that works best with it, any suggestions? I'm guessing either a tube screamer or a boss?

Yep. It is truly sad. The hours and hours people spend learning to play an instrument are completely wiped away by spending thirty seconds finding the sample you like and yelling over it.sirthx wrote:Funny you mention how criminally underrated Carl is (yes) and here's this clip of him KILLING it, so you have an absolute fucking legend, just tearing it up on guitar, and it has 700 views. Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I wanna get a guitar repainted and was quoted $625 by a place in van nuys for the whole job. That's about as much as the guitar is worth! Anyone know of a good local place? It's a set neck V, so I don't really want to ship it.
I could save $125 by taking all the stuff off of it, but that doesn't seem ideal...
