In the late 90's, I had a summer where I listened to almost nothing but hip-hop. I really liked the Dungeon Family stuff (OutKast, Goodie Mob) and Kool Keith's Black Elvis record. I think GZA's Beneath the Surface came out that summer too? Really liked Wyclef too, though I don't think that album has aged well at all.

I feel too old for hip-hop nowadays but I still fuck with some 90's stuff. Put on KMD's Black Bastards last night, in fact.

Nope not a phase. Continue to mix in some rap every now and then.

The only three I listen to: Ice Cube, E-40, and Eazy E

I'm not a fan at all. What little I do like, I feel weird listening to. Like, I'm entirely too white for this and it just feels...odd.

Nope. Always saw it as more of a novelty than music.

Mine was around '90-'94., then I listened to it sporadically until the early 2000s or so. As someone pointed out, you get to a certain age and you start to feel too awkwardly white listening to it. And the fact that hip-hop and its derivatives basically replaced pop and rock in the last decade..that helped me grow away from it as well.

NWA, Cube, Eazy, Gang Starr, 1st Wu Tang album, De La Soul, and my all-time favorite, The Geto Boys.

I thought Snoop was cool as fuk back on Chronic and Doggystyle. But I swear he gets on my last fucking nerve these days. I always thought Gay-Z was shit, all the way back to Reasonable Doubt. Him n Beyonce could crash n burn in their private jet and it would probably lift my spirits for the next week or so.

Around '93, I was nearing the end of my grindcore/death metal mania, and I think hip-hop was a convenient genre to transition to. Because after a few years of death metal..my ears were desensitized to where it took me a while to appreciate rock again..that is, rock that didn't have cookie monster vocals and blast beats.

Early-mid 90's a little bit I guess. Not a phase, but there was some of it I didn't mind that my friends played when we'd hang out or at parties. NWA, Eazy-E, Dre and Snoop, Beastie Boys, Wu-Tang and RUN-DMC, for the most part. Maybe a few others where I liked one song or something. I can still listen to some of it every now and then. I was probably 99% done with it already when Biggie and Tupac were killed. Always found that kinda shit pretty ridiculous and not something I wanted to follow.

Hell NO! I never had a rap/hip-hop phase. I do like the message behind a lot of it (drugs, money, women, anti-law enforcement). All that stuff is great, but the "musical" aspect of it just does nothing for me. Most of it is too slow paced and it is usually just some guy talking. Although some of it is humorous, it doesn't create any type of reaction as far as getting worked up, or turned on, or want to drive fast, or evoke any emotion of any kind. There is just nothing really to it. It blows me away that it is all some people listen to. Just my opinion of course and I seem to be in the minority.

I will say Bust A Move was pretty good though :)

From 1979-2018. I don't really listen to any new rappers. I listen to new rap but it's all guys who've been around at least 15 years or so. Mostly a "Golden Age" ( I would define as around '87-'92 but era is a flexible) and mid-late 90s street/underground fan. I despised the late '90s+ commercial shiny suit era but the shit that's out now even makes a lot of that more fun and bearable these days.

Not a phase really Ive liked hip hop and rap since the late 80's. Never had a problem admitting I like rap as well alot of other genres of music.

For about a week with Dr. Dre and the Chronic album. That was the beginning and the end of that phase and it never came back

Yes, in early to mid 90s it was Ice Cube, Ice T and the Body Count, some Public Enemy and Onyx. I also dug a bit of New Jack Swing. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action soundtrack, Color Me Badd and Vanilla Ice moreso as a kid.

I skipped the whole mid 90s, FUGEES, Red Man, Cypress Hill, 2PAC, Biggie Smalls and disliked Puff Daddy.

In late 2002 early 2003 "metal" had become so wigified with blast beats, tracksuits and passive aggressive parodies about Rap, that Hip Hop was kind of a natural progression. Then you had The Fast and the Furious, Eminem's 8 Mile movie, Black Eyed Peas etc.
It wasn't uncommon to see the "sticky carpet crowd" from nu-metal attic clubs frequenting hip hop clubs. Ashanti, Ja Rule, DMX, 2PAC's posthumous albums (Until the End of Time, Better Dayz), Snoop Dogg (Paid the Cost to be the Boss), Jay-Z (Blueprint 2.0).

I can't say I seek out rap music these days, but don't mind it if it plays on throwback FM radio.

Like others have said I don’t know if I’d go as far as calling it a phase but as a kid I liked Rappers Delight and when Eazy E and NWA first came out I liked them.

Although I liked them more for humorous reasons, they seemed like if Richard Pryor had a recording career this is what it would sound like.

I don't see how sludgers can hate on The Fuck Shop by 2 Live Crew, they sample both GnR AND Van Halen within the first 20 seconds!
