No. But if you're big in Idaho, then you have in fact made it.

Absolutely yes. There's many bands and solo artists who do well and ignore the States completely. It's our own arrogance that says otherwise. All that "I'd you haven't made it in the States, you haven't made it at all" is horseshit at best. .

Firehouse pays for their condos and tranny girlfriends by playing to stadiums full of zipperheads in Asia. I'd rather do that than play to 400 American middle-aged fatbodies on a rock cruise

You've obviously never been on the MOR Cruise. 400 middle aged fatbodies? Try like 5x that number.

100% agreed. There is also more money in other countries than ever before as well. So being big in other countries is definitely a success now.

The same thing occurs in the movie industry too. Back in the day, if a movie flopped in the US, it was considered a bomb. There are now movies that flop in the US, but make so much money in the foreign markets, they generate sequels.

Aren't Mr. Big still an arena-level act in Japan?

The two biggest anywhere-but-in-the-US bands I can think of are Nightwish and Arch Enemy. Nightwish are borderline Iron Maiden-big in Europe and South America, not so much Asia. And Arch Enemy are insanely popular in Japan, which is really weird. Why them, of all bands? Mediocre singer and a total waste of the talent of Jeff Loomis.

I don't include Rammstien because let's face it, they filled arenas on their last US tour. MSG sold out in an hour.

And plenty of Japanese bands have had thriving careers without setting foot outside the country. X Japan immediately comes to mind as does Anthem, who I think are better than Loudness. Show-ya, an all girl band, tried to make it in the US, failed miserably, but are still active in Japan even in their mid-50s. And oh man does their singer need to start dressing appropriately for her age.

Yes, because those are big music markets, but I personally wouldn't mind becoming big in the US and Canada, too.

My argument is that isn't EVERYONE big in Europe and Asia?

Like, anyone - including the fat bald loser with a wig at my local music store, can go book a tour in Europe and do well.

To me, even though I am Canadian... if you ain't made it in the States... you aint' nothing...

Europe never started the big metal movement of the 70's, 80's, or 90's... AMERICA DID.

Exactly!

These days, if you're paying your bills strictly from playing music, you've made it.

Sabaton would be a good example as well. They are getting bigger in North America, as they are up to co-headlining theatres, but Europe, and particularly Scandanavia, seem to go apeshit over them.
