Which WASP Album is more Cohesive? Debut or Headless Children?

Post by MrBagel »

I would've put Crimson Idol in as well, but since it was a straight concept album, it just seemed to be the obvious answer as that is what I would pick. I always thought Headless Children felt like a concept album & the tracks flowed well into each other. While I dug the hits, I really didn't get into the debut 'til later in life. I LOVE the production on it (raw but done well), and it has an equal flow that goes from song to song. Making a track list is one of Blackie's looked-over talents, I guess.

The post is centered on the flow of it, nothing else. I dig the music of both probably equally, but some of the lyrics on the debut are damn laughable, near Ace Frehley level. B.A.D. is one of my all time faves musically but those damn lyrics are atrocious.

Headless children is really good, but the Debut is awesome. You said it perfect on the production "Raw but well done". It was the perfect combination of heavy but melodic. Not too heavy for the Hair metal crowd, but heavy enough for the Rockers.

I've always thought it they put out another album or 2 that heavy, they could have become a lot bigger...they just went "radio friendly" too quick.

I've never really judged a band on the quality of their lyrics....hell, most of them probably never graduated High School anyways.

Headless is WASP's best album by far.

One strange thing about the debut is that the singles and best known songs are the weakest. School Daze is garbage, Animal and IWBS would be good songs... on a Twisted Sister album.

I agree with mrbagel both about the music and lyrics of B.A.D., and the same applies to The Flame.

The Last Command (on yellow cassette) is their best album.

KFD is the most cohesive.

My Tortured Eyes is one of their best songs ever, imo.

Both are great.

Most cohesive? Best flow? The debut I guess.

I prefer the debut anyway, that album just smokes, 10 short bitchin songs about school, bitches and torture.

Headless has plenty of moments of greatness, but it's too serious lyric-wise. I prefer party-W.A.S.P. to serious-W.A.S.P.

I think that they’re both cohesive and excellent albums in their ways.

I voted for the debut, mostly because I simply prefer Tony’s unique drumming style that pervades throughout the album, and despite their flaws, I prefer their two-lead guitar lineup.

Sure, some of the lyrics are complete shite - particularly on “Tormenter”, & the aforementioned “BAD” & “School Daze” (which sounds a bit like Blackie trying to do his take on Alice Cooper’s School’s Out”). This annoys me now much more than it did when I was cranking up this album at age 15.

That said, Headless Children is a powerful, cohesive work, from, essentially, a very different band.

Wasn’t Blackie trying to do some kind of Nine Inch Nails sort of thing on this album?

I haven’t heard it years either, but here it is:

It's great. Where everyone else failed trying to append their sound with "modern" elements, WASP hit it out of the park.

First times the charm. 8)

Most of their other releases were great too, but the first was in a class all by itself.

I've never listened to THC all the way through... I have never been able to make it through that album, so I'll go on record as saying it ain't no cohesive, it's diarrheic !! Inside the Electric Circumcision was barely listenable... Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING We Are Sexual Perverts put out after the debut was weak sauce sh!t. Put that bass back on, "Blackie" and stop fkn around. I haven't bought tickets to this alleged "back to blood and guts" tour coming up for fear of being extremely disappointed. My expectations are VERY high, and I just can not imagine Steve Duran and his cast of dummies pulling it off.

Debut by far away for me.

I also love KFD. Good to listen to when you are in an angry mood.

My band opened a sold out show on the Headless Children tour.

Blackie is a dick of enormous proportions.

The debut.

I shared it here a long time ago.

First and foremost, it was hilarious to watch sound check.
Blackie doesn’t do sound checks, so the rest of the band was basically making fun of him the whole time they are doing it.

Secondly and of biggest proportion…my band was an all original band and we killed it in front of like 1800-2000 people, so we were feeling good about ourselves.
We are backstage in our dressing room high 5ing and having celebratory drinks when Blackies road manager busts in the door and says “Blackie will not enter the building until the backstage area is completely empty” and made us leave the backstage area quickly and permanently
Talk about a complete asshole.
We went from top of the world to feeling like little turds in 2 minutes.
At the time, I was a huge Blackie nutswinger.
Motherfucker never got a dime of my $$$ after that.

Debut is more cohesive. Headless Children is better in its high points.
