Much of what is happening in the music industry mirrors the recent trends in Hollywood. The appetite for content continues to grow, and studios and production companies are being scooped up for higher-than-usual valuations. The money pouring into both Hollywood and the music industry was largely coming from private equity firms with deep pockets coming out of the pandemic’s market surge.

While many have anticipated a slowdown in music catalog sales, the opposite has been taking place with two major deals already being announced in 2023. Variety Intelligence Platform will continue to monitor the music back catalog deal action.
