Question about The Whisky

I’m considering going to see Dokken at The Whisky in November. I know Don’s voice is shot, but spending my 56th birthday at The Whisky sounds like a pretty cool idea to me. My question is, generally what time do the headliners go on? We want to walk around the strip before the show and aren’t really interested in seeing the openers. Thanks in advance.

Depends on how many openers. They usually post the set times on the front glass of the ticket booth. I can't remember a headliner going on before 11 PM in the last few years. I bet Dokken go on around 11:45 or 12 AM because they have such short sets.

11p/11:30p is a good time gauge for headliners. Head up to the Rainbow and hang beforehand for sure.

No.

Place starts emptying out of members of the 20 opening bands and their friends but they are the ones who finance the headliner's guarantee. Promoters and bands interested in providing value for their fans money do it differently. I saw the Hoodoo Gurus recently at a sold out Roxy play from 8:15 to 10:15 for example. They know their fans don't wanna stagger in a few hours before they have to get up for work and also aren't interested in enduring the bartender's friend's band either.

To answer the OP - there is really nothing to "check out" walking around in that hood. Tower is gone, Book Soup closes at 10 and the rest is high end stores and restaurants.. The Whisky and a few remaning tourist traps are relics of a bygone era and will also soon be gone.

You can walk down to Santa Monica Bl and check out Vons deli if you don't wanna pay $100 for dinner or the numerous gay clubs.

You should definitely show up at 4pm at Whisky
See Dokken start time. Then walk to Arbys down the street. Start walking back around 8pm to make 11:30 start time

Honestly surprised Don will be up that late. I don't know how he doesn't bore himself to sleep by 7 PM every night.
