Good album. Never cared for Fall To Pieces. It sounded like something they put together just to have a slow song on the album.
Not everybody is on MetalShit.com and Blabberface fuckin’ dot net! Who cares? There’s such a small amount of people that do that. - Blotz

First album was very good. Second album was crap. Huge drop in quality.

The first and last song are great. “Loving The Alien” might be the only song of theirs where I thought they at least equaled the sum of their parts.

I remember thinking at the time it was not as good as it could/should have been, but it was still a good shot in the arm at a time when music needed it. Only later saw that documentary about how they formed and could see Weiland was still a mess, and I knew they couldn't last.

I really liked it, but thought their next one would be even better since they would have been together longer.
Boy, was I wrong. 'Libertad' sucked.

If only new GNR could be so good, last fart of creativity from Slash & co.

I like his Snakepit and Conspirators records better. I wanted to love STP and Weiland but just never could. Scott was a poor but very popular choice.

Both albums are mostly filler........and pretty equal as far as "quality".....
Love STP and Gn'R, but IMO, Weiland and Slash were not a good musical pairing.

Re: Velvet Revolver Contraband
Contraband is solid. Libertad still has a few songs I really like, but yeah, the drop-off in quality is obvious. I've read that it's one of only three albums Weiland ever did while sober, but Weiland's lyrics were rambling, nonsensical bullshit either way, so I'm not sure that would affect the music much.

Re: Velvet Revolver Contraband
Gave it a front-to-back listen for the first time about a year ago.
Songs and performances were decent. The production made it hard to listen to. Everything is just jumbled together in the mix without the clarity and dynamics you'd find in classic Gn'R/STP albums.
Music made for the MP3 generation.
