HEATHEN - Set Me Free

Post by Don't Damn Me »

I saw this on Headbanger's Ball a couple times back in the day and I loved it. I think they are from San francisco. I haven't heard anything else from them. I had no idea it was a cover tune until Stryper recorded it for The Covering in 2011. I never would have guessed it was originally a Sweet song. I had their greatest hits for years but it's not on there.
I think each of these versions is great.

this is the track that put them on my radar.

Ronnie Montrose produced this album, which I thought was cool.

It's a decent thrash cover. In some ways I actually prefer it to the original.

None of these are as good as the original. As with all Sweet covers...

Meh.

Like other bands, didn't they have an ad for their debut in every metal magazine every month? I remember an old guy on his knees covering his ears or something like that.

True.

Used to love Heathen, but those clean thrash bands haven't aged well for me at all.

However the bands, the smelly cunts, those are the ones that aged like a digested cheese. Thats the real stuff.
