Perhaps they just dont take into account how such little things can have big effects on a bullet fired from a distance. I kinda went down that rabit hole when I was reading about Chris Kyle. He was supposed to be Americans deadliest Sniper, or whatever.

Heard the guy from Hardcore History get into this once, and said that the idea that some dumbfuck nobody loser can change their whole world in an instant is psychologically scary to most people - they don't want to believe it. So it's easier for them to think some group is out there pulling the strings, even if that group is evil.
