Ace Frehley 10,000 Volts

Link might not work for you yanks for a few hours.

It’s no better or worse than the same schlock he’s released on the last four albums. The vocals sound like they’re in slow motion, it’s far too wordy, he’s struggling to get all the words into the verse.

Same lame cliche guitar solo he’s played on every song for the last 15 years.

The pre-chorus is the best part and I don't believe he can actually sing that well, so someone used some "magic touch."

Sounds like an outtake from Carnival of Souls, but at least Abe Freshly is actually singing

Listening to it again. You know, if they played the track back at like 75% speed and he sang to that, when played back at normal speed he might sound normal. He sounds like he’s in slow motion when he sings, it’s really odd. It’s not low notes, it’s like slurring or something.

I already said this some weeks, or maybe months ago... I heard this single "10,000 Volts" and I was pleasantly surprised.

It was WAY better than expected, and def has something that Ace or Kiss hasn't had in many years, perhaps decades.

Steve Brown played it for me at breakfast the weekend of Rocktember and it sounded killer.

Tomorrow is the day it hits... I am curious to hear it again and hear everyone's thoughts.

Now available on the West Coast. I'll take it. Already added to my Spotify. 1st spin rating: 7.5 out of 10. Could get to an 8 the more I listen.

I see some online pundits going nuts over it and I don’t get it. It’s OK… even good… but not great. I much prefer most of the material on the first Frehley’s Comet record, Trouble Walkin’, and even Anomaly. Hell… Kiss are getting flak for playing Say Yeah on the Farewell tour and I think that’s a better song than this.

Also… it’s clear Ace is kind of an Ozzy figure and needs help to come up with material. Be it John Regan/Tod Howarth or Steve Brown.

Music and production are good and better than anticipated. The lyrics are fucking horrible and cheesy, which was anticipated. Almost sounds like a parody. It's rhyming 101 and most elementary students could do similar.

Ozzy probably had more input on his last 2 records than Ace did on this.

For Ace that's stunning work. Going to have to credit Steve Brown and need proof that it's Ace actually singing and playing...

I thought it was completely hopeless, irrelevant, embarrassing. Musically, lyrically and sonically just about the worst thing I've heard all year. Honestly can't imagine wanting to hear that ever again.

Frehley is so unbelievably lucky to have carved out a career from a single gimmick and have KISS fans still lining up to support him.

The actual video was released a little bit ago. I'm okay with the song as far as an Ace song. It is not a stellar tune. In the video, his band is performing and Ace is doing that slow-motion windmill move and seems to keep staring in one direction (as if the cue cards were off that way). I can't say I'm interested, but I spit out a comment here.

There's the video:

So much great music has come out this year from older bands and this certainly isn't one of them. Just listening to it makes me want to go to the doctor to get my blood work done because I feel unhealthy after hearing it. It's horrible on the eyes and in the ears.

It has a better solo than the Mick Mars song.

I like the song, but it's "Spice Up Your Life" levels of self-awareness at this point. We get it. You're from outer space. You were electrocuted once in the '70s.

Just like the Mick Mars song, that overly processed drum sound is an immediate turnoff. Nobody likes it. Why does everybody keep doing it? Does anyone use an actual producer these days or just a home-computer engineer who identifies as one?

The mix is weird. It's Ace. The guitars should be prominent, but feel buried in the mix. Yet there really isn't anything else to bury them with.

Exactly my point...

I am not even a KISSTARD or one who follows any of the ex-members, but... this song stood out when I heard it 3 months ago, and it stands out now.

Good for Ace, good for Steve Brown, good for those involved.

Sounds like an AI created Ace song. It’s fine, nothing that really makes me want to listen to it again, and I’m an Ace fan. As someone noted the drum sound is terrible, can’t anyone produce a real sounding drum anymore?
