Longest gigs you've seen?

Post by Hellsinkey »

Yesterday I saw Michael Monroe's second ever acoustic show. He did a lot of own songs, Hanoi songs, covers and requests too. Everything from Pink Floyd to Queen. The show was 3 hours and 30 minutes, which was the longest show I've seen, beating The Cure ( 3 h 15 Min) and Yes ( 3 h). Which have been your longest gigs?

Springsteen, Ullevi Stadium 2012, 3h 45 min
Guns N'Roses, Friends Arena 2017: 3h 10 min.
Paul McCartney, Ericsson Globe 2011. 2h 45 min

I think every Springsteen show I saw was at least 2.45 but can't remember exactly.

I've seen Prince and Springsteen reaching/crossing the 3:30 line, and frankly those are the only acts I'd even want to do that.
2h is the max for other good to great headliners.

Bon Jovi on the Circle tour was about 2.5 hours and that was just about the right length.

GnR played for 3.5 hours, but the show started at midnight, and I bailed at 2am.

The Queensryche Building Empires show in '91 was almost 3 hours. They played all of Mindcrime and most of Empire.

I can't think of any artist that I would want to see play for three hours. 90 minutes is pushing it for me...

Ween. Years ago they played a club in New Orleans and never left the stage.

Lots of fun as they were smoking pot and singing with the audience.

I bailed after three hours, but from what I understand, they didn't finish until the sun came up.

Saw Springsteen play his career longest show, 4hrs and 6 minutes at Helsinki Olympic Stadium in 2012 I think. Was too long definitely. One of The Cure`s Stockholm shows felt almost as desperately endless :)

Much preferred Death Cult`s 70 minute set at Manchester Albert Hall last month. FNM also did great to the point sets at Angel Dust headline shows.

Same. Fantastic show. Typically 90 minutes is plenty for me.

Sounds fun. Ween is one of my favourite bands and I'd like to see them even once live. Shame they never play anywhere near.

Another one for Bruce!

I was at the 8/25/16 MetLife Stadium show. 4 hours. I don't know how the fucker pulled it off! It was a great show that did not drag at all.

I haven't seen too many long shows. Probably GnR on the reunion tour.

I have no desire whatsoever to sit through a four hour concert. Haaard no.

I remember leaving The Eagles “Hell Freezes Over” show early back in 95. Sunday night concert and they played EVERYTHING, a lot of it slow tempo stuff that just dragged outside of the hits.

Took my mom to GNR for her 70th 3 years ago and the band played 15 songs too many, plus solos. Fuck that noise.

Another vote for GN’R circa 2017. Not sure which was the longest, probably the LA Forum or Staples Center. For some reason they played both venues in the same weekend. Both shows were pushing 3.5 hours.

Eagles last year was easily three hours as well. Can’t help but notice the tour this year is the same songs in the set just with Those Shoes and the non-singles from Hotel California taken out.

Why does Axl play such long shows?

• He has contempt for the fans, going on hours late
• He doesnt like his bandmates
• He'll quit the show at a moments notice, showing he doesnt care about quality
• He sings like a dying cat, putting wear ad tear on his vox

How come he decided he needs to do double the length as his contemporaries? Was this ever answered?

For me it had to be Dream Theater at the Pantages Theater in LA in 2004. It was the 15 year anniversary of When Dream and Day Unite (their debut album). They played it in its entirety... AS AN ENCORE after playing an entire main set. My gf and I were seated in the balcony and I was literally nodding off in my seat when they were playing it. I'm a huge DT fan but that was too much for me. Plus I never got into that album anyway.

Yeah I think the '97 Evening With Rush tour was similar.

Who '89 was 3 1/4, but with intermission.

Allmans were always good for 2 1/2-3.

As said, Guns '91 and '16 were long shows.

Saw P-Funk play several 4 hour shows, routinely going past closing time. One club cut the power on them at 2, then let them finish their last number.

Either the Cure or Gn'R.

The Cure one felt longer due to a bickering argument with an ex.

Tim kasher and Conor oberst at maxwells in NJ. At 2am they locked the door and those guys decided to open the bar for everyone who stuck around. They “played” until almost 6am completely wasted. I can’t imagine the tab, they probably just forfeited the guarantee.

Halloween Supersuckers Super Big Show
2 Sets. 2 hr of country and 2 hours of rock.

I saw KRS-One play for over 3 hours. He had some of the guys from Rocksteady Crew there on stage with him too. That was incredible.

The other Evening with RUSH tours were 2 hours and 40 minutes which included intermissions and films. I saw every tour starting with "Grace Under Pressure".

The "R30" tour was longer due to the band playing 4 cover songs from "Feedback".

Bruce Springsteen was pushing 4 hours for a couple shows.

I read the title as "Loneliest gigs you've seen?" for a sec.. was going to say this will be a good read.
