KISS the ultimate trend jumpers

Post by VinnieVincentsVag »

Rock n Roll
Concept album
Disco
Horrible 80s hair rock
Grunge
Full circle back to (attempted) Rock n Roll.

Does that cover everything?

Return to a harder sound in the early 90s to try to keep up with the big four.

Oh, come on. You're just scratching the surface.

'70s live album(s)...

Early '80s Van Halen imitation...

Late '80s power ballads...

Unplugged...

Symphony...

Officially sanctioned tribute album...

Playing an album in its entirety...

Cruise...

Sappy Diane Warren soundtrack ballad...

Farewell tour (twice)...

There wasn't a trend these guys didn't try... or hop on just a little too late.

I've always thought it was bonkers that Kiss released a disco song only 5 years after their first album, and have somehow managed to create this image as the ultimate real rock and roll band.

I think it just goes to show how huge of an influence they were on a generation that people are willing to just kind of forget about all of that stuff.

How to spot a KISSTARD :

* No punctuation
* They weirdly capitalize every word for no reason
* Nonsensical half-replies on threads
* Brags about being in a KISS tribute band in their profile

“Trying different styles” and copying every new trend in music are 2 completely different things.

Scorpions and Krokus. If not bigger trend jumpers then not far behind.

"First they ripped off Judas Priest, then Mötley Crüe and Bon Jovi and now it's us" Joe Elliott about Krokus circa 1986-88.

Nope. Whether you like them or not they pretty much set the trends on the 80's in their genre.

Trend jumpers, or a label calling the shots, hiring the producers, songwriters, etc...to create hits/generate review at the moment?

Released one satanic album in 83', dressed like Hanoi Rocks for Theater of Pain, released Generation Swine that's heavily influenced by the then popular industrial sound and modern punk, and the grunge influenced 1994 album.

Yeah, I remember satanic rock all over the charts. And Hanoi Rocks too :roll:

There's a difference between having influences and hopping on a bandwagon. Whatever wave they were on in the '80s, Motley was riding the crest of it.

(You're absolutely correct about Swine, however. And to a degree, the '94 album.)
