Be fascinated to know the legality of this. He’s not signed to WB anymore. Does he own his masters? Is this something new or just an alternate mix that he had lying around from 88?

If he’s got the masters … remaster the fucking albums already! Should have been done a decade ago.

Sounds epic... and this IS one of my absolute favorites from Dave!

This and "Good Times" are the 2 best solo songs he's ever released!

Of course "EEAS" is also top stuff, front to back.... but these 2 songs are just awesome.

I don't hate it. I wouldn't say it's better, but I do like being able to hear some of those harmonies and such that were lower in the mix before.

Sounds cleaner but missing the "umph" of the original. I don't know what the "umph" is but it's missing it.

That’s why I thought it might date back to 1988. Sonically it doesn’t sound much different, it’s just got a few elements slightly higher in the mix like the backing vocals.

The harmonies and ahh's in the pre chorus are blasting through the mix. It's clear he just wanted more of himself in the mix lol.

Pretty sure there’s a woman in the mix somewhere. Either that or Tuggle is doing some varispeed shit on the keyboard.

Ok looked it up there’s a few people credited for backing vocals on that including the guy who wrote True Colors, Like A Virgin, Alone and a bunch of stuff.

So they took the reverb off everything.

Sounds terrible compared to the original - doesn’t work with those flat, raw drums.

Great song. I'll keep the original mix. The peak of the hair metal era was a fun time.

I know people here like to shit on Skyscraper, but I always liked it. Not as ferocious as EE&S, but still a cool vibe and a lot of fun. "Knucklebones," "Damn Good" or even "Two Fools a Minute" would've been a better second single from the album.

Agree. Here's a nice little blurb about how releasing Stand Up as the 2nd single killed Skyscrapers momentum and, pretty much, Dave's solo career. He was alone on that island.

Sounds like ABBA with all the vocal harmonies and with the guitar so low in the mix.

This will be a big hit with the international and cruise ship crowd.

I’m not sure if that’s an insult or a compliment! It just goes to show you how important the mix is.

As for Stand Up….
The album didn’t really have a second single. Hot Dog and a Shake maybe? I always liked the song Perfect Timing. Damn Good got some airplay but it’s too laid back to be a hit.

I think Damn Good could have been a hit with all the ballads of the era, and Knucklebones could have been a minor hit.

Damn Good would do better than Stand Up but then any song off the album would except maybe the title track, too weird for MTV. Stand Up was like early 80s synth pop 4-5 years too late so wrong in all aspects.

But Damn Good wasn't exactly the standard 1988 hit ballad either. What ballads were big then, Whitesnake's Is This Love, Europe's Carrie, Leppard's Love Bites... not the same thing. Damn Good would be a better fit in 91-92 than 87-88 ...

DG actually got some mid-market airplay but it was TLTL, the album and tour were already dead in the major markets. Agree that DG as a 2nd single followed by almost anything else would've been the play. There's a good article by Mick Wall about how Dave was obsessed with thinking that he could compete with Prince and MJ. Had he just stayed in his lane, maybe Vai would've hung around a bit longer.
