We've been talking about this one for a while now.... since he "left" Kingdom Come.

God damn shame what alcoholism can do, and what someone can do to themselves.

I'm not going to say booze is worse than say Heroin/Fent, but GODDAMN. Twelve years ago, the guy was on top of the world with Scorpions, and I saw them twice on that Sting in the Tail tour with him having that big solo in the middle of the show, and now there's absolutely nothing to show for it.

As many have said, not unexpected but very sad. Addiction sucks, and can turn a person who has “everything” into a person who has nothing in short order.

RIP. I enjoyed his work when he was well.

First band I ever saw in a bar when i was able to get in.
Never On Sundays in Silverton.
They were huge in Ohio as well.
James went on to play with Warrant and Scorpions.
Johnny went on to sing with King Kobra and Foreigner.
Not sure what happened to guitarist and bass player.

I put that together when he was on that ex wives of rock show. Couldn't sit still to save his life and always looked like he hadn't slept in days. I couldn't imagine him ever voluntarily going to bed passing out was probably the only way he got any rest.

Not surprising at all. I hate to sound cold but I was glad to see the Scorpions get a pro like Mikkey Dee.

James has the world by the balls. He could’ve played for anyone and as mentioned, had a great job with the Scorpions at one time. Sad he threw it all away. Even more sad is he had kids.

Unfortunate circumstances, but yes... appreciate them crediting my site.

I have broken numerous stories like this, and select sites, etc... (including TMZ) fail to acknowledge Metal Sludge.

The 2 bigger stories that come to mind are the Tawny Kitaen and Brian Howe passing... rough times for rock n' roll folks... and more to come sadly.

I rec'd some incoming early today as well, once again, from both strangers and some "friends", people in the industry, a mix of stuff including.... "Is this real?" from a guy I am friends with... F#@king moron... it happens every time... as if I would print that if it was made up.

Also a few "This is a total BS story" type comments... oh well.. there are always going to be some in the crowd.

In the end, it doesn't change the fact the guy died, and for the record, James was always cool to me... always.

RIP James Kottak.
