Memories of the late 80s as an Italian KISS fanatic

Post by Roland Rockover »

Being an Italian KISS fan in the late 80s meant diving into a hard rock wonderland where Crazy Nights and Hot In The Shade weren't just albums – they were passports to a realm where leather, makeup, and powerhouse riffs ruled the day.

Tracks like "Thief In The Night" and "No, No, No" from Crazy Nights became secret anthems, injecting wild energy into the Italian hard rock scene. Hot In The Shade's "Hide Your Heart" and "Rise to It" resonated and fermented with Italian enthusiasts, encapsulating the essence of the era.

Navigating KISS fandom in Italy meant embracing a culture where flamboyance and musical virtuosity collided.

So, there I was, fresh out of high school and ready to conquer the workforce. First gig? Local record store. Walked in on day one sporting my denim jacket with a KISS patch. A bold move, you might say.

Now, my new coworkers were a cool bunch, all decked out in band tees and funky accessories. I tried to spark some KISS conversations, but it felt like I was preaching to the mildly interested.

Then, one day, during a slow moment, I unveiled my secret weapon: the limited edition "First KISS Last Licks" album. Faces lit up with curiosity. Popped that beauty on, and the room filled with the glorious sounds of KISS.

As "Prisoner of Love" blasted through the speakers, I watched their skepticism melt away. Suddenly, my KISS patch became the talk of the room. We bonded over "Partners in Crime" and belted out "Strutter" like there was no tomorrow.

Before I knew it, we were planning a KISS-themed night at the store, complete with discounts and a playlist curated by yours truly.

The kiss non makeup years are some of my favorite albums ever. But the songs you named ..... c'mon dude... No, No, No , Thief in the Night. Prisoner of Love. Even I don't' have anything good to say about those songs.

You wanna talk about Kiss. Stop with your novellas and tighten your sh*t up. A simple post that says Kiss - Crazy Nights..... Your thoughts would be just fine, and probably have 3 pages of replies.

Need a translation of your awesome book into French? I have competitive rates. I work fast (Vinnie Vincent fast). My favourite album is Lick it Up, not one of those sister albums (Animalize/Asylum, Crazy Nights/Hot in the Shade), hope that's not a problem.

I actually do like A/A/CN, but yeah, Hot in the Shade is indeed poopoo.

Was this post written in Italian and run through Google Translate?

I've never heard a Kiss song described as "fermented" before, although it might describe a few.

Anyway, I loved Crazy Nights and Hot in the Shade. Both are better than Revenge. (Suck it.) Still appreciate the gloss and cheese of CN. HITS has lost some of its luster over time. Too many songs. Dull production.

Kiss should've licensed "Rise To It" to a commercial for Viagra or Cialis. I thought these guys knew how to make money?
