I saw Van Halen at The Gorge in Washington State back in September of '95 on the Balance tour and the highlight for me was when Sammy came out by himself with his guitar and started playing and singing High Hopes and his tone and playing was cooler than anything Eddie played that night. I was pleasantly surprised.

What’s pretty crazy is that in his advanced age now, the general public most likely does not know that he is a pretty solid guitar player. The tequila party gimmick overshadows any of his true abilities. They’ve accelerated his bank account more than anything. To be the solo artist he was in the 70s and 80s, the guy had to have A shit load of raw talent.

What? He was lucky to have come up in an era where a record company wouldn't always drop you after 3 flat albums. He didn't have a hit record til his SIXTH album. If Eddie doesn't call him in 85 he'd've faded into obscurity.
