Best song based on a TV show or movie?
I chose Judas Priest Johnny B. Goode.
I think it is overlooked. The arrangement is all their own they could have called it something else and never have been called out for copyright infringement
The guitar is awesome Rob sounds great, but it never gets mentioned among great priest songs. Maybe it's looked upon as a sell-out moment for them

It is a cool version, but Chuck Berry and his publisher would have been all over it. John Lennon borrowed and slightly changed just one line from "You Can't Catch Me" for "Come Together" and he had to record three Berry songs a few years later after getting sued.Don't Damn Me wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 2:59 am I chose Judas Priest Johnny B. Maiden and it's not even close. But of all the songs you could pick, what a shit selection.
The winner is and will always be a non-rock-genre song which nontheless rocks harder than most "rock" bands:

I picked Maiden as it is one of their greatest songs, but I agree with all you wrote about Priest and JBG. I love their version but was on one of their least liked albums (RID), and both the movie and the single bombed. They played it live for about 10 shows, then dropped it and never mentioned it again. Looks like the band did what they could to bury it. They should have let Top Gun use Reckless instead and put JBG on TurboDon't Damn Me wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 2:59 am I chose Judas Priest Johnny B. How the hell is Johnny B. Goode based on a movie or TV show? The song predated the movie by three decades.

I think he means that *Priest's cover* was made on request from the movie producers.BernieTaupson wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 7:03 am How the hell is Johnny B. Goode based on a movie or TV show? The song predated the movie by three decades.
Trivia - Jon Astley who later remastered Priest's catalogue had one of his own songs on the JBG soundtrack.

Some good ones here, but I gotta go with Rush. I love the Dokken, Maiden, Alice Cooper, and Ramones songs here as well. Though, for some reason, I saw this thread title and thought The Rembrandts’ “I’ll Be There For You” would be on the poll. I guess that’s more “theme song” than “inspired by…”.

My write in pick is Where Eagles Dare by Iron Maiden. Great song and a pretty damn good movie.
Got myself a Cadillac, but can't afford the gasoline.

Songs that were actually based on existing movies :
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_Largo_(song)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heartlight_(song)
Sabbath The Shining is meant to be about the film but it’s so vague it could be about anything.

Alice for me! Not my favorite song, but Ozzy 'Perry Mason' came to mind when I read the topic. Also just remembered Iron Maiden 'Falling Down'.

Not really a Sludge band, but since they have a few fans on here I'll nominate In A Lonely Place by The Smithereens w/Suzanne Vega. Great little tune based on the old movie of the same name
