Bad Company

Post by pieceofme »

Haven't seen this band talked about a lot over the years.

Thoughts and opinions about this band. And your favourite album by them?

When I was a teenager getting into older rock bands, bad company just didn't rock hard enough for me compared to other classic rock bands I was getting into.

Now I'm older i definitely appreciate them more. I guess I mellowed with age.

Bad Co rules. It is known. Burning Sky kills. Also the plain black Bad Co t-shirt is an all timer...

Straight Shooter.

BadCo should be in the HoF. Paul Rodgers has one of the best voices in rock.

Except it's 10 from 5. Nothing off Burnin' Sky. That always seemed dumb.

Desolation Angels is my favorite. No bad tracks, and it flows very well from start to finish. Great album for a road trip. Evil Wind is a fantastic deep cut.

Bad Co. Paul Rodgers CD I have is The 'Original' Bad Co. Anthology

Favorite song is 'Wild Fire Woman"

And I like the Brian Howe CD's, "Dangerous Age" and "Holy Water".......

Never understood why Rodgers is such a bitch when it comes to the Howe era, but even more "cringey" is Kirke and Ralphs also shitting on the Howe era because they are obviously bitches for Rodgers.

The debut is a classic. Straight Shooter is also really good.

Mick Ralphs is one of my favorite guitarists. Tasteful solos. Kind of a "less is more" approach to playing guitar.

I was raised on that first album. Can’t Get Enough is probably the first song I have memories of singing along to as a toddler.

That song, Rock Steady, Movin’ On, Ready For Love, and Bad Company are pretty much tattooed on my brain.

The Five Finger Death Punch cover of Bad Company is one of the most offensive things I’ve ever heard in my life.

Debut and Straight Shooter are their best overall albums, though Run With the Pack has the highly underrated "Silver, Blue & Gold" on it:

Really, though, you just can't go wrong with much of what Bad Co. put out, classic 70's or Brian Howe-era.

In general, for most of my life I underappreciated 70s bands, Bad Company, Foreigner, Boston, even heavier stuff like Mountain, etc. and even Sabbath to a degree.

I've always thought that a lot of that is that when I was coming of age (late 80s/early-mid 90s), music had gotten so much heavier and music production had gotten so much punchier, that any hard rocking "edge" of bands from the 70s did nothing for me. When you're 14 years old and you spent the week blasting Vulgar Display of Power from your first Columbia House shipment, the chorus to "Feel Like Making Love" might as well be a Wham song.

Bad Company being on the softer edge of that wave of bands, they were definitely on my "blah" list.

As I got older, and I started to appreciate the songwriting more than just how huge a riff sounded, I started appreciating those bands more and more. The song "Seagull" was my first "whoa, these guys are good" moment. Still not a huge fan, but it's hard to deny that they're a great band at the end of the day.

I always thought they were a good "singles" band, but couldn't really sustain things over an entire album. But I'm also a weirdo who likes the Brian Howe era. "Holy Water" and "Dangerous Age" were pretty good albums, but they probably should have called it something other than Bad Company.

Saw the band with Paul Rogers once, I found myself pretty bored outside of a few of the bigger songs and Free's "All Right Now."
