Ultimate Sin is a brilliant album

The older I get, the more I dig this album. It's not as good as Diary, but almost on par with Blizzard. Jake E. Lee shines all over this album. Dude was leagues ahead of Zakk. Ozzy's vocal melodies are very catchy. Maybe one or two duds but a whole lot better than the albums that came after. Yes, even No More Tears.

I always prefer Jake to Zach. I always loved Secret Loser off this album.

I always thought some of the lyrics were cringeworthy, not nearly as mature as the first two records.

But I love and listen to this album because of Jske. The dude is all over it, playing everywhere, unlike Bark at the Moon.

I look at the Ultimate Sin as showcase for Jake

I prefer Bark at the Moon to this one, by a mile.

Ultimate Sin would make for a killer cassingle though.

Yep. Tremendous release. I like Diary a tad more but I listen to Ultimate easily the most out of Ozzy’s releases.

It sounds half-finished at best.

Give a listen to Lightning Strikes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivdBhNR ... hy&index=6

Then listen to some other metal recorded in 85/released in 86.

Loudness - Shadows of War - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeHDU2itNgQ
Stryper - To Hell With The Devil - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sG0zAn0dL2I
Cinderella - Nobody's Fool - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EehQBpBE56s

The difference is just.... embarrassing. And I love the song itself.

Why is the bass guitar the main instrument in the mix?

Why do the drums sound like only the snare/HH mic was included?

Why does Jake sound like he's playing into a cheap distortion pedal right into the board with no amp?

I've always felt like they got "Shot in The Dark" perfect and were like "Okay, we've got the hit. just set general levels for everything else - we're almost out of money."

Bark is like No More Tears - one great song surrounded by a bunch of filler.

Hell yeah, one of my favorite Ozzy records. Is it Diary or Blizzard? No, but it has its own fun ride. Jake on Ultimate Sin is like George on Back for the Attack. Career highlight for guitar work.

Had the cassette way back when, then the CD for the longest time and finally tracked down a good quality original vinyl pressing a few months back. Sounds great and has all the promo inserts.

Second to ‘diary.’
And Jake is equal to Rhoads with this album

In my opinion, it’s a masterpiece. Top to bottom, not a bad tune on it. For me, one of the best albums of all time.

Some good songs and great playing let down by the mix sounding like shit, and not enough variety in the tunes.

A bunch of them are pretty much just the same song. Never, Never Know Why, Lightning Strikes, Fool Like You … how many mid tempo rockers did they need?

Two good songs. Title track and shot in the dark. Which makes it one of the best solo ozzy releases.

It's a great album, but it was definitely different, being a bit more "glammy" in overall sound. And Sharon's a c*nt for deleting it from the library and refusing to give Phil his cut.

Pretty sure he bullshitted about who actually wrote SITD. Caused all sorts of shit later on.

Fuck yeah it is. Jake's rhythm playing is unbelievably creative. Unfortunately its hard to hear everything he's doing with the mix. I went on You Tube and found some dude playing "Never" and when you see and hear all the little things Jake is doing it is fucking mind boggling how cool it is.

There weren't too many shredders that threw down on busy rhythm parts that hard and went past power chords into EVH inspired chord inversions. Jake studied piano like Ed so his brain is way more musical than your average dipshit blues box guitar player.

I agree with this.

I feel like this is basically Jake's peak as a player, and his playing carries/is the only redeeming quality of this album. The songs blow, the mix blows, and Ozzy blows. But I think Ozzy blows in general, so take that with a grain of salt.

It sounds like Jake E. Lee got a decent rhythm section together and recorded a killer demo tape, and then they had Ozzy come in and sing random shit over it. Which is basically what happened.

I think Bob Daisley was not as much involved in the songwriting on this one. He started, then left and in the end delivered lyrics for a lump sum.
That might explain the songs not being all there...

Jake is great on this album. It needs more low end, but otherwise the songs are great. "Secret Loser" could've been a single. I remember "Thank God For The Bomb" being the worst song on the album.

Was surprised this wasn’t 8x+ platinum. Seems like the videos were on MTV constantly.

Agree it's pretty dumb but it was 1986, heh. That dive bomb intro and solo save it. Like ppl keep saying, this album is Jake's tour de force, and he carries it despite the weak Nevison production, half-assed Daisley lyrics, and Ozzy at his most sozzled.
