Angels get shut out last night, for the seventh time so far this year. That's over 20% of their games played so far. This offense is dreadful.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
The numbers to date are amazing, but the guy is still a risk. His off the field habits might not cost him some money, but instead cost a team that signs him for tens of millions a lot of money.killeverything wrote:My God! Josh Hamilton smacked 4 homeruns tonight!
He's having a ridiculous season .406/ .458/ .840 14 HR.....2 more than the Padres
He's a FA after this season (age 31). Now with the durability of JD Drew and the decision making skills of Darryl Strawberry, do you resign him if your Texas and for how much? Think of the massive contracts given out recently ( Votto, Fielder, Pujols, Crawford ), and his need for a support system.
Will a team be able to get maximum value for the life of his contract? Or will the money be wasted on a player who's off the field habits are well known?

It's not just his drug abuse issues, which for the most part he's kept under control lately. The team does provide support and sponsors, etc. I think his biggest risk is his age and inability to stay off the DL. He played a 120 games once, and that was a few years ago.Machado wrote:The numbers to date are amazing, but the guy is still a risk. Took this from a Yankees Blog:
Mariano Rivera just said that the complication discovered Monday was a blood clot in his right calf. He doesnt believe its a significant problem and he has already taken steps to fix it.
Rivera also said he was leaning toward coming back next season even before the injury.
This injury could have been blessing in disguise as they may not have found clot if not for this serious knee injury.
Imagine that? Rivera is a very religious man and has not made his faith a secret

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Hey Kill-Been a few days of silence from Bobby V, but now he's back with some angry comments about the umpire and a situation with Beckett
Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine sat at his desk, legs crossed, slowly shaking his head. Something was brewing.
Moments before, Valentine had watched his team lose 4-3 Wednesday night to the Kansas City Royals in a game featuring a couple of close calls that might (or might not) have shifted the final score.
"Guys battled their butts off," Valentine said. "That's all I know. F---ing umpire can't make a right call and get help to get it done. It's a damn shame is what it is."
Two days before he missed a start because of stiffness in his right lat muscle, Boston Red Sox starter Josh Beckett was playing golf, according to 98.5 The Sports Hub.
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine addressed the report before Wednesday night's game against the Kansas City Royals.
"I haven't talked to Josh about this yet, so I'm not sure I can really comment on it other than I can say physical issues, I guess, he had a sore lat," Valentine said. "He wasn't an injured player. I know that. And we'll take it from there. But I'm sure Josh wouldn't do anything that's going to jeopardize his team or his season. I know that."
Beckett flew back to Boston on Wednesday and was unavailable to meet with the media. He is scheduled to start on Thursday.
According to the report, teammate Clay Buchholz was golfing with Beckett on Boston's off day. Buchholz declined to comment before Wednesday's game.

Mike Trout was called up and immediately put in the leadoff spot. After a few days he settled in and now he's beginning to rake. This kid is gonna be fun to watch.
Oh yeah, and an "eff you" to WHSAC for getting him on his fantasy team one hour before I tried to. Dammit. I snoozed, I losed.

Hey Kill-
Josh Beckett is not making any friend in "bean-town" these days?
What the heck did Bobby V do to the clubhouse?
Your guys might be better off w/Tito and a locker room full
of suds.

I would have thought it's just as likely that the clot is a result of him being laid up and immobile.Machado wrote:Took this from a Yankees Blog:

Whatever the case, glad he's okay. I really hope he comes back for the Yankees, even if just to get one save and retire or something. Hell of a way to go out otherwise.

He's not, he's in AAA. Even there he's hitting well below the Mendoza line, but he's 3 points above the Bob Ueker line.

Best record in baseball.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Yankees took game 1 at Orioles tonight.
Tex showed up and hit the go ahead 2 run homer in the 7th.
Nova left the game with an ankle injury in the 6th. Yankees do NOT need
another starter on the DL.

Angels get shut out for the eighth time this year, this time by a pitcher who came into the game with an ERA over 7.50. And Mickey Hatcher, their hitting coach, still has a job. Meanwhile, their season is rapidly spiraling down the drain.

You leave Mickey Hatcher alone.
So that's what happened to him.

I know that it falls on the hitters to actually, you know, hit. However...we've had a terrible offense for years now and Hatcher has still kept his job. He's had it for over 10 years. Time for someone new, even if it is a purely symbolic gesture.

Yankees place David Robertson(closer) on the DL
with a strained oblique
Soriano inherits the job for the time being. If he excels in this role, he might keep the role for the duration of 2012.
