Jerry Lawler underwent an angioplasty last night, where a balloon is used to widen and clear blocked or narrowed heart arteries in the heart.
We can also confirm that Lawler had stents placed in his heart last night, updating our earlier note that he was scheduled to have the procedure done today. The procedure has already been done.

If Smith Hart really said that, Smith Hart is an idiot. I'm no doctor, but I'm quite sure that the brain without oxygen for more than a few minutes is severely, irreparably damaged.

Actually, it is possible. We have worked (doing CPR/ using AED) on a patient before for 30 minutes. Remember, during CPR you are pushing air into the PT as well. It is very possible that from the time of his collapse to getting to hospital he was not "technically alive". Think of drowning victims that are under for long periods of time. It is possible to be "clinically dead" then be revived. Now, I am not sure if Jerry will have any mental deficit following the incident, due to lack of oxygen.
But, I would be willing to say if this had happened in his hotel after the show he would be dead. The fact responders worked on him instantly saved his life.

The part I bolded had not really occurred to me - I had been thinking strictly completely without oxygen, thanks Sin. See, you CAN learn something on Sludge, people!

No problem! KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

Also, I like explaining shit I actually know about!

Glad to hear he seems to be doing better. I can imagine how freaked out fans and crew were watching that all unfold.

From montrealgazette.com:

MONTREAL - In the genteel phrase book of professional wrestling, which is punctuated by powerslam, suplex, atomic drop, tombstone, piledriver and chokeslam, are two simple words that are vital to the backstage talent-bookers and the performers, insider lingo that’s also familiar to the cognoscenti of the so-called squared circle:

Work.

Shoot.

A work is a carefully scripted angle, either in the ring, in heat-seeking interviews or in allegedly impromptu backstage rumbles that TV cameras conveniently catch for live or later promotional use, sometimes from different vantage points.

A shoot is the reality of someone stepping out of character or straying from the booker’s script; it’s when something totally unexpected happens, for better or worse.

On Monday night at the Bell Centre came a horrifying shoot during World Wrestling Entertainment’s weekly RAW event, witnessed by fans in the raucous arena and millions watching live on the USA Network or on tape-delay on Canada’s The Score:

Veteran pro-wrestling icon Jerry (The King) Lawler, 62, collapsed at the ringside broadcast table beside long-time announcing partner Michael Cole, stricken by a heart attack not long after having taken his licks in a four-man tag-team match.

The wildly popular King was stretchered to beneath the stands, where he was said to have received cardiopulmonary resuscitation before being transported to a Montreal hospital. Lawler was recovering in a cardiac care unit Tuesday, the WWE saying in a statement only that all of his vital signs were in stable condition.

Multiple Internet reports described an angioplasty procedure having been performed, involving the clearing of one or more blocked arteries and the placement of stents. Another report said Lawler was on a respirator to aid his breathing and that his son, Brian, had arrived at his bedside.

This much is certain: there’s no question that superb and immediate Bell Centre attention and subsequent hospital treatment saved Lawler’s life Monday night.

It’s also not an exaggeration to say that this very public heart attack was the most frightening incident at the Bell Centre since Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty was concussed and had his neck fractured on March 8, 2011.

Both crises were genuine, of course, but for a time Lawler’s was a confusing is-it-real? situation, given the blurred work vs. shoot world of the WWE.

Lawler apparently had no symptoms of health problems before his attack, not that the heart always gives a warning. He had wrestled in Aruba last Friday and Saturday before flying up to Montreal for Monday’s show.

I refereed for the WWE from the late 1980s through mid-1990s whenever it came through Montreal and eastern Ontario, assigned to officiate matches by Quebec-native bookers and one-time wrestling stars Pat Patterson and Gino Brito.

From literally arm’s length, I witnessed many injuries, most a work but some a shoot: wrestlers dropped on their heads, thrown over the top rope through tables, shoved off the top rung of eight-foot stepladders, propelled from the top corner turnbuckle down onto galvanized steel crowd barriers or ring steps.

The results in this “sports entertainment” are predetermined, yes, but there is nothing fake about its physicality. Often, when a wrestler hobbles from the ring, he’ll still be limping or spitting blood behind the curtain.

I refereed Jerry Lawler a few times. A tights-clad throwback to his barnstorming roots in his beloved Memphis — he ran a few times in the city’s mayoralty elections — the King was a headlock-and-pulled-punch performer, an old-school survivor and consummate entertainer in a business that was morphing into pyrotechnics and glitter makeup, actual wrestling just a bridge between the flogging of cheesy merchandise and pay-per-view sales.

Backstage, he was a gentleman who’d shake my hand before we went to the ring, making sure I knew the script, and then again after the match.

The Lawler crisis quite literally sucked the breath out of the Bell Centre on Monday, many fans ignoring the match in the ring to watch the King wheeled to the back. The remainder of the show would be an anticlimactic footnote.

A visibly shaken Cole tried weakly to announce a couple of matches after Lawler had been taken from ringside, twice reporting updates on his friend and colleague’s condition. Cole finally left his microphone, the RAW telecast finishing without blow-by-blow commentary.

What made Lawler’s emergency even more bizarre was RAW’s tape-delay in Canada. Fans watching live at the Bell Centre or on USA Network were flooding Twitter with reports of the incident, while for an hour after the fact, The Score still had Lawler either commentating or wrestling.

The Bell Centre show was surreal for another reason: it was the celebrated return to Montreal of Canadian wrestling legend Bret (Hitman) Hart, the former multi-time WWE champion.

This was Hart’s first time back in the Bell Centre since one of the greatest shoots the modern business has known: the so-called “Montreal Screwjob” of the Calgarian by WWE owner Vince McMahon, in which Hart was stripped of his title belt during the 1997 Survivor Series pay-per-view when McMahon changed the script behind the Hitman’s back.

Hart trashed a ringside television monitor that night, spat in McMahon’s face then, backstage, decked him with a punch, all on TV or captured by filmmakers whose Wrestling With Shadows documentary is one of the most revealing studies of pro wrestling, warts and all.

Time and money heals all wounds, and Hart’s return to Montreal was expected to be the highlight of Monday’s RAW telecast.

It was, until reality collided with fantasy at breakneck speed and a stretcher was needed for Jerry Lawler. It was then that one of the greatest workers in his business suddenly was gasping for breath, starring in a shoot that was as dramatic as it was difficult to watch.

I love what TNA is doing for Bound for glory. Hardy vs Aries is going to kick ass. It's the two hottest stars on the roster, two of the best in-ring wrestlers in the world.

All the insiders and wrestling sites got it wrong. I don't think anybody predicted this card for BFG. They all thought it was going to be either Roode/Storm for the title or Aries/Roode for the title. Now they're all like "wahhh this doesn't make sense", "waahh where is pay-off"?

Really. Here you have this dude who comes in with a pink sweater and shakes his ass. Yea he is the future of the WWE.

Shawn Michaels could pull that off and still look cool. He didn't need someone to scream excuse me for him.
You seem to forget, while Shawn was pulling that EXACT gimmick off (although it was hearts and not pink t-shirts) he had Scary Shari fronting for HIM. The difference is, Shari new when to shut up and let him work, they can't seem to get away from Vicki's screeching=heel heat.
Maybe that's a great point. I don't know what Michaels did before like 96. To tell you the truth.

Many wrestlers say the same thing about the E today. You got to make it happen yourself. It's not the attitude era WWE where Vince Russo comes in and tells you this is your gimmick and this is your story. I think he said to Michaels in 97 now you're going to act like a sleazy former porn star.

Nobody is going to do that to Ziggler. Giving him Vickie is probably as much as they are going to do for him. It's up to him to make it something out of it.

Any update on Lawler?

Also what bugs me about Ziggler is his gimmick has been done a thousand times by the likes of Shawn Michaels, Val Venis, Billy Gunn, the list goes on. He is just not original. Also the fact that he stole that #heel theme from a backyard wrestler. A FUCKING BACKYARD WRESTLER for fuck's sake.

Over the last few days, a lot of people within the wrestling business have commented that Jerry Lawler is in quite good shape financially, yet continues to wrestle because he loves it. If this is the end of his career, he may have a hard time adjusting to no longer being in the ring. Especially after 42 years.

he wrestles a few times a year for WWE around maybe 6? he gets $250,000 a year from WWE. Vince seems to include him on Raw and other events because he wants the younger fans to understand he's just not an announcer, and he still good at it. Most of matches are 5-7 minutes, with King never taking a beating that much.

he seems to wrestle on non WWE dates, around 60 a year?

Lawler just put out this short video from the hospital:

http://www.pwinsider.com/article/71904/ ... s.html?p=1

He looks and sounds as well as can be expected. Like many have said: if the same thing happens to him in a restaurant, or his hotel room, he's a goner. The fact he was surrounded by WWE medical personel, and local EMTs, saved his life.

Is that his first tattoo I'm drawing a blank trying to picture him with one before?

I've always liked him I wish his band would hit the big time, whatever that might be for a band putting out that type of music in today's world.

His two books were good reads and he'll always get bonus points from me for not being a "vanilla midget" and standing up for himself against Goldberg.

Yut343 wrote:WWE Removing 'Attitude Era' Videos & More
ewrestlingnews.com wrote:As noted earlier here on the website, WWE announced late Thursday that it was removing "dated and edgier" footage from its official website and media platforms, a day after co-founder Linda McMahon's political opponent used clips in an attack ad.

"To better reflect our current family-friendly brand of entertainment, WWE is removing some dated and edgier footage from digital platforms," said Brian Flinn, WWE's Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications, in a statement. "Some of this footage has been misused in political environments without any context or explanation as to when it was produced. This damages the corporate reputation of our company. WWE is well within its rights to protect its intellectual property for fair use."

Flinn said the footage removal is not related to an ad released Wednesday by Rep. Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat running for Senate against McMahon, which featured WWE footage while slamming her for allegedly off-shoring profits to avoid taxes and failing to provide health coverage for their performers. Rather, it is part of a re-branding effort.

While WWE held a PG-14 rating for much of the late 1990s and early 2000s when she was running the organization with her husband, Vince McMahon, its current content is rated PG or G.

Despite all of this, WWE has been extensively promoting the WWE 13 video game, which is all about the Attitude Era.
Fuck this company. Fuck Linda McMahon. Fuck PG. Fuck John Cena.
Is there any company anywhere that alters its history more than WWE?
