I know far too many Cubs fans who are blind to the truth and look at the Cardinals as lucky. One guy I work with actually told me this:

A's trade OF prospect and cash ( 500K ) to the Dbacks for Chris Young.
Maybe "there is no way we can compete with Texas and Anaheim this season" division winner Billy Beane has something up his sleve. That bad ass OF just got better in Oakland.

Red Sox hire John Farrell as new manager and all they had to give up was Mike Aviles. I almost feel proud.

I'm not sold on Farrell, never have been. Look at what he's done in Toronto ( which is nothing ). I wanted Ausmus personally. Apparently the players feel the same way.Facedown wrote:Red Sox hire John Farrell as new manager and all they had to give up was Mike Aviles. I almost feel proud.
He's a hell of a pitching coach, but did you see Toronto play this year? They were as lost as we were. ... Losing [Jose Bautista] was like us losing David [Ortiz], but they didn't gut their team at the deadline (and still finished only four games ahead of the Sox). And what happened to their pitching staff? Isn't that [Farrell's] strength? He can't make 'em make the pitch, but isn't that the expectation here? Whatever. ... I'm pretty sure those guys were in more of a hurry to end the season than we were. Did you see how fast they went in the [expletive]? That was a step backward." - unamed player.

I'm not sold on him yet, either.
The fact that they didn't give up 10 draft picks and their top ten prospects to get him is what has given me a glimmer of hope that the organization isn't full of morons.

The Jays are on pretty much every day up here and even tho I'm not a fan,I watch them when there's no other games on and damn...they were the worst-coached team in the league by far. They have no grasp of fundamentals whatsoever.Physical errors, mental errors, terrible baserunning, stupid decisions. You name it.They were horrible.

Lester, Bucholz and Bard had their best seasons under Farrell as pitching coach. Even Lackey had a decent 2nd half so there is a little wishful thinking going into the season.

The odds of ARod going anywhere during this off-season are very, very long.
It would take an incredible deal that has never been seen in order for
Cashman to agree to a trade and also for the Yankees to agree paying appox 80% of more of Arod's salary.
The Marlins and Dodgers have gone on record of saying they are not interested.

Zito confirmed as game 1 starter. In 2010 ( or any year after 2003 really ) did you ever think Zito would start game 1 of the WS? Verlander @ Zito...wonder the odds...

If Zito beats Verlander, then it's game on, the Giants have a serious shot at this. However, even if he doesn't, it was the expected result and the Giants won't be too down.
I agree with him. It's sorta kinda a no pressure game for the Giants. If they win it's like "found money".
He also said that if the series gets back to SF, the Giants win it.

I could see that easily. The Giants are tough, but Detroit's pitching is terrifying. As I said before I think it's going to come down to Detroit's defense.WOLF wrote:Bill Lee was interviewed on local sports radio today, and said this:killeverything wrote:Zito confirmed as game 1 starter. This could be the best WS we've seen in a while. Exciting like last year, but hopefully not sloppy.

Kill-Your boy Bobby V can't help himself. Since the moron does so much talking, he needs to get a job at MLB Network or his job back at ESPN.
Former Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine on Tuesday said slugger David Ortiz sidelined himself after a brief return from an Achilles injury -- not because of soreness but because the team made a blockbuster deal that sealed its playoff fate.
"He realized that this trade meant that we're not going to run this race and we're not even going to finish the race properly and he decided not to play anymore," Valentine said in an interview on "Costas Tonight" on NBC Sports Network. "I think at that time it was all downhill from there."
"It's unfortunate that Bobby would be putting blame on David for the way this season has ended," said Fernando Cuza, Ortiz's agent. "Nothing could be further from the truth. David was having his best season since 2007 and has been one of the most durable players in the game. Based on the advice of the team doctor and his own doctor, resting and therapy was recommended for a complete recovery from this injury.
"David loves to play this game and has never quit on anyone, and most important of all on this team that means so much to him. He has been a leader on this team and is disappointed in Bobby's remarks."
Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington vehemently denied the former manager's accusation when reached for comment Tuesday night.
"I wouldn't be trying to re-sign him if I had any concern about David's commitment to baseball or to the Red Sox," Cherington said. "During a trying year, David was a leader for us on and off the field. Unfortunately, an Achilles injury cut his season short. It was a tough break in a season full of tough breaks for us."

Maybe he was just having a bad day, or he just may not have wanted to sign during a game. My grandfather had season tickets behind the Red Sox dugout when I was a kid. Fisk would talk to the people in that section when he was going in & out of the dugout. He evidently recognized the regulars and singled me out when I went to my first game. I never saw him sign an autograph during a game, but he signed lots of stuff before games. I had a ball signed by Fisk, Yaz, Petrocelli & a few others. My grandfather gave the ball to Fisk who passed it around and gave it back to us. He certainly was a purist about the game, but he seemed like a good guy.johnk5150 wrote:Who hasn't drank a 12 pack of PBR and torn up a cornfield ?Facedown wrote:Carlton Fisk arrested for DUI last night.

Went to my first Angels game when I was 10. Was hanging out in the parking lot with my friend and we saw Reggie Jackson get out of his car and walk toward the stadium. We ran over to get his autograph, and when he saw us he went back to his car, opened his trunk, and got some stuff out. He said to us "sorry kids, can't sign autographs, hands are full" and walked away.
At least Fisk had the decency to be honest. Fuck you, Reggie.

Tigers leading at 6-1 to win the series next year.
Cubs 75-1. Those numbers WILL go down. I've never seen their odds that bad. I don't think I've ever seen it in double digits with all the drunk Chicago assholes that throw money down on them every year just because.

overheard a very interesting WS stat yesterday.
when a team sweeps the LCS and their opponent plays a 7 game series,
the team that swept the LCS and was forced to wait "X" amount of days
for the WS to begin is now 0-4
i think, i think i overheard the combined record for the 4 losing team
is 2 wins, 16 losses.
OUCH!!!
