CUBS - Arrieta has just tossed a no hitter vs the Dodgers 1BB

The score keeper gave him a break, calling a hit an error but it's in the books

Arrieta No Hit's the Dodgers....Sit down.

LAD 0 CUBS 2 F

Cubs got 2 runs in the first off a Bryant HR, that was enough.

If you're signed up on MLB.com for every no hitter Dominos is giving away free pizza's to the first 20,000 to log in and redeem the code. With the Arrieta for the Cubs tossing his last night the time to log in is tomorrow at noon pacific....medium two-topping Handmade Pan Pizza for a carryout.

I'd rather spend $8 at Pizza hut then be a tight wad for a carryout because a lowly CUBS pitcher threw so many pitches in the dirt the strike zone shrank to your shoe laces.

 Dominoes pizza is pretty horrible. Even if it's free. Still it's not as bad as Papa John's. I find it ironic they hired one of worst QB's in NFL history to shill their shit pizza.

Mariners trade OF Austin Jackson to Cubs for PTBNL. Even though he's hitting .308 in August I thought he would be more of an impact for Seattle.

*ETA

Seattle got international signing bonus pick #4 in the Jackson deal. Since both Price and Cueto were traded they won't cost a pick. Out of all the free agent aces on the market this upcoming season their picks will probably play a bigger impact than normal. The drafting pool looks really strong for '16.

Royals acquire Jonny Gomes from Atlanta.

Yankees claim Robertson from waivers to block Jays.

Macchi to take over closer role from Tazawa in Boston.

SF trades ml LHP Luis Ysla and cash to Boston for Alejandro De Aza. I think that means they don't expect Pence back any time soon.

LAD acquires OF Justin Ruggiano from Seattle.

MLB reconsidering Shoeless Joe Jackson...........

http://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/s ... /71478388/

The curator of the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum said Major League Baseball has responded to her effort to gain reinstatement for the banned Greenville native, and she will make an announcement on the museum’s Facebook page Tuesday morning.

MLB spokesman Mike Teevan confirmed in an email that commissioner Rob Manfred had communicated with Arlene Marcley, but “we do not have plans for any formal announcement.”

Manfred took office on Jan. 25. A new commissioner incited new energy in Jackson supporters. The following month, Marcley organized an online petition to encourage Manfred to reconsider Jackson. Marcley said the petition was followed by five letters requesting Jackson’s reinstatement.

Jackson has been banned from Major League Baseball since 1921, when the first MLB commissioner, Kenesaw Mountain Landis, barred eight members of the Chicago White Sox for allegedly conspiring to fix the 1919 World Series.

As part of the “Black Sox” scandal, Jackson was accused of accepting a $5,000 bribe to commit errors. A jury acquitted Jackson of those charges in a Chicago court. Yet, Jackson remained banned from baseball until his death in 1951.

His name is still on the MLB ineligible list, which bars him from consideration for the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum, which opened in 2008, is located at 356 Field Street across from Fluor Field in Greenville’s West End

----------- :?

According to a report from The CincinnatiEnquirer, Manfred plans to decide on the reinstatement of former Cincinnati Reds star Pete Rose by the end of the year. Rose was banned in 1989 for gambling on baseball, an offense he denied until 2004.

Based on their career statistics alone, Jackson and Rose should head directly to Cooperstown if they are reinstated and added to the Hall of Fame ballot. Rose holds career records for hits (4,256) and games played (3,562). Jackson compiled a career batting average of .356 with 529 extra-base hits on 4,981 at-bats. He recorded 785 RBI with an on-base percentage of .423 and a slugging percentage of .517.

However, Jackson and Rose’s Hall of Fame legacy still would be left to the mercy of voters.

Nope.

Rejected. I think Buck Weaver never should have been banned and I think that piece of shit Charles Comisky should have been banned right along with them.

Cubs - Nice come back, I honestly thought they was going to hit a cold streak after losing both series matches vs the Giants and Dodgers so while checking the scores and seeing them down vs the REDS tonight I figured it was over. I was wrong.

----------------------------------------------

GREINKE BEAT BUMGARNER! *ducks*

Great match up, great game. Honestly, I don't want to see Bum ever again but as you probably know "KILL" the Dodgers have a 4 game set @ the Giants to close out the month, September 28th to Oct 1st.
This could get intense, I'm going to have an ulcer by then. It makes this home stand so important since LAD can't win in San Francisco and don't play as well on the road. LAD play's 7 out of 10 on the road to end the season. That's cruel. Giants on a 4 game skid.

Dodgers 2 Giants 1
Greinke (W) 7.1IP 5H 1ER 1BB 5SO
Bum (L) 7IP 8H 2ER 1BB 8SO

KILL, what was up with last nights game no call Balk?

These teams are going to destroy each other fighting to get in. At least until the CUBS fizzle out this month.......Come on Cubs, I'm counting on you to lose a few more to make it a race.

So how does everybody here feel about the MLB expanded rosters
rule as of Sept 1?

IMO, the rule is out of hand and needs to be changed. I will say right away that I am not in favor of submitting a 25 man roster for each game after Sept 1. That would be a very bad idea.
If anything, I suggest limiting the roster to 33 at the very most. Up to 8 call ups maximum.
I understand that teams out of the pennant race might call up the maximum to get those players experience, but for any team to have that many players at their disposal for a single game is really not MLB baseball.
More like a video game.

I agree with what you've said but I've yet to go over it detail and look at all the angles. Teams having these players or specialists who've sat around or picked up at the last moment just to put on the roster in case a pinch hit vs this one pitcher and sent back is silly.
If we call up Joe Blow for tonight and give him a pinch hit vs leake in the 6th because he has a .400 against lifetime in 20AB in Night Games shit is stupid. I prefer the team that got them there, play it out. I'm also trying to look at the daily injury side as well.

I might be confused with some of this, just shooting from the hip.

Injuries have been a huge factor with the Dodgers the entire season. They made more pitching moves then anyone because every day a player was going down....The entire season LAD has had a crowded OF, now within a couple weeks they've lost a couple and went from packed to thin almost over night. Then you have players like Howie Kendrick who went down with a, he could be back in 15 days or 6 weeks injuries. Could come back any day or be out the season, hard to determine shit.

While teams out of the race, ya bring up anyone to get them experience, if your out of the race put them in and out as you wish because it's just money sitting around not getting experience during the season race. The argument would be, those teams could impact the playoff race if they're playing all their call ups.

I'll have to look it over, but I totally get that video game analogy and hate it. See these names in the playoffs, some Joe picked up late or you've never seen before pop up then disappear.

You might remember, most know more then I do but....
A number of pages back a few of us got into a discussion that started with the Miami Stadium and ended with how owner Jeffrey Loria is a criminal. I think everyone knows it's not a joke, he is a criminal. Loria completely swindled the deal for the new stadium that should have put him, a number of people, business and politicians behind bars.

After reading how Loria financially murdered Florida it's unimaginable how he'll ever put a winning team on the field let alone gain full support from the local fans. From time to time I'll pull up story's about how he built the stadium and it still blows me away.
Stanton will eventually be dumped because it's all about stealing money for Loria, if he thinks Stanton isn't going to make him money soon Loria will do what it takes dump Stanton regardless of if he turns into the best player on the planet. All Loria knows is Stanton is costing him money now. And Stanton fucked up for backlogging his contract, he'll have to wait till 2020 at 30 years old before he can lock up the money. Till then he's not banking, so I see Loria trying to swindle out of it, dumping Stanton on another team long before that. That's why it's all blowing up now. Early as possible, after one fucking year?

Loria is not interested in Stanton, never has been. He want's people in the seats giving him money. Now it's up to Stanton. Stanton went there on a promise from a Crook the team was going to win so if Stanton really want's to win or when Loria makes things bad enough Stanton will have to renegotiate his contract in order to leave otherwise he's just going to sit in Miami, suck up the losings seasons till his backlogged money kicks in then he can leave.

I bet Stanton will eventually cut his contract next year and run out of Florida just to get away from the mess, I feel bad for the team and the fans. The Marlins are like Nazi Germany under the control of a criminally financial mad man.

I like how that link touches on how bad things are in Miami and how Stanton's camp warned him. Now here we are like a year later and Loria is already string up the pot looking to save his investment. I think it's fucking funny for Loria to eat a shit sandwich but it hurts baseball, the team, the fans and Florida who will be paying billions for that fucking Stadium for generations. Not Loria, he gets free rent, Loria don't even have to pay taxes on the land it's on.

Loria shouldn't be allowed to own a team let alone walk the streets for the shit he pulled.

SF GM Evans says Tim Lincecum to miss rest of season. Supposedly if he has the hip surgery he would gain his velocity back. Lincecum is a FA after the season.

LAD call up top prospect SS Corey Seager.

Cubs hottest hitter Kyle Schwarber to have MRI on ribs. It's precautionary. They believe he can return to the lineup Friday.

I read Dodgers weren't going to call him up. Change of minds I suppose.
Is Kershaw locked in or what? This generation's Sandy Koufax.

Remember when Linceum was the stud of studs? That lasted what? 2 years & its been downhill ever since.

Yep. I didn't think his frame and delivery would give him a long career, not unlike Koufax.

As for Kershaw last night's game was 138 pitches. If LAD makes the post season and Clayton is batting practice again, you know why.

Andrew McCutchen named NL Player Of The Month.
Jake Arrieta named NL Pitcher Of The Month.
Kris Bryant named NL Rookie Of The Month.

*ETA

Lincecum underwent successful surgery on his left hip this morning. Will begin rehab assignment in a few days. I don't see him back in SF though unless it's a minor league deal. Remember Evans/Sabean had no problem letting Wilson walk and he was almost as beloved as Timmy. They were right to too.

It was only 132 pitches so he'll be fine!
Mattingly should have pulled him after the 8th but he didn't have a closer so I didn't mind it until Duffy's single with 2 outs, at that point it would have taken 12 or so off his pitch count. But that's Don for ya and it's exactly what Don has done with him in the season and playoffs, over use him to death. It also why I don't blame Kershaw as much as I blame Don for Clayton's playoff shortcomings........With that said, last nights game was huge and could easily turn into the game that gets them there. Ending the season with 4 at San Fran is going to be ugly.

If the Dodgers had anyone in the pen who could eat up innings I would have went with someone else. Since Jansen pitched in 4 of the last 5 and this being a huge game to win in the 9th. He had Jim Johnson warming up.....Fuck that. Maybe vs the Dbacks but not the Giants.

Tough call.

I get the tough call aspect, BUT I really feel both SF and LA would be fucked come the playoffs. The Central is scary. Which ever team makes it won't last long. SF has dealt with a lot of injuries and underperformances with every pitcher not named Bumgarner.

I kinda don't want the Giants to make the postseason. Since 2010 every time they've made it they've won the whole thing. The Cubs and St. Louis are so tough I think either one of those teams will be in the series. Really I still think no one is stopping the Cards. If they weren't so young and had playoff experience Chicago would be right there.

Still I see a Jays or Royals vs. AL Central WS. The Cubs I believe will be the team to beat next year.

Anyways, I think Mattingly's overuse of Kershaw is criminal. Yeah, SF isn't too far behind and a bunch of AAA callups were only beat by a run. Protect your starting pitcher. If the Dodgers don't win it all this season I expect Mattingly to be released. With Friedman at the helm there is no way Donnie Baseball survives. I still believe when your postseason chances are so possible you start resting your aces.

Damn near every successful team does that. Mattingly has only watched the playoffs. It shows.

No question about the Card's but I'm more afraid of the Met's and Pirates then the Cub's. I still believe they're a spark plug team like the Puig Dodgers two seasons ago riding on a high. This month will show a lot but honestly IF the Dodgers make the playoffs I'm more afraid of Mattingly then I am the CUBS.
It's not a slam, the Cubs proved they have something special and are committed. They've overachieved if we rewind to the start. The playoffs are a different game and I'm not buying the CUBS like I did KC last year.
The CUBS will have to go through the WC round and if they win I'm betting it ends there.

What about Mr. Forgotten Matt Kemp 3rd in the NL with 87RBI's? It wasn't much of a prediction but at the start of the season I did wish and say Matt Kemp would have a better and longer season then Puig.

Kemp like last year is a second half player. He just knocked in 2 vs the Dodgers putting SD 4 LAD 0 2nd Latos has been a total bust.

Kemp like last year is a second half player. He just knocked in 2 vs the Dodgers putting SD 4 LAD 0 2nd Latos has been a total bust.
Kemp's production is meaningless because SD have been out of the playoff race since the first week of June. I will admit that I did not want to see him traded, but somebody had to go. When he was with the Dodgers I always thought Kemp & Kershaw would be Dodger lifers. From what I've read he was a bit of a cancer in the clubhouse.
I would have no problems with L.A. trading Puig in the offseason. Unlikely though because he has a very friendly contract for the next few years.

Fuck replay, I've been against replay from the start and the more I watch the more I hate it. I've seen bad reviews, the delay is draining and the overturns sucks the life out of me just because of the disruption. Baseball is slow enough and a game of momentum and replay can effect that momentum. I find it harder in baseball then most other sports. Starting with if you hit 3 out of 10 you can be an all star.

Tonight's Padres vs LAD pushed me over the edge. /Rant
The worst call I've seen all year will be shown on the channels I'm sure but what it wont show is how it changed the game. As a fan you went from a complete high to a gut punch. The real kicker, they talked and argued about it on the field forever and DIDN'T replay it even tho in the rule books they could have! The announcers were livid and didn't let it go, they went through the rule books and where baffled. The way the rule is stated there was at least 3 ways around it so it could be replayed and made right. Instead they argued, scratched their head for 20 minutes and let the bad call stand without a review.

Down 4 Runs, LAD fought back and took the lead with a 5R 6th. The debut of Seager just doubled in 2RBI's and the team had all the momentum in the world, they was on fire taking a 7 to 4 lead....Then the bottom of the inning happened. The clip of the night was Seager looking at Upton after the call and Upton giving a priceless look of, DOH!

It erased a double play, delayed the inning 20 minutes, added an ER, added pitches to the relief but most important it changed the momentum of the game.
From that point on The Padres took over and scored in each of the last 3 innings blowing up the 9th.

It forced Baez out after 1IP which meant another call to the pen eventually leading to the entrance of......Jim Johnson, game killer.

Jim Johnson, 0.1IP 1H 2ER 1BB 1HR - game over.

There should be a trophy for the pitcher who kills the most games, like the golden raspberry award in cinema and call it the Jim Johnson game killer award.

----------------------------

I'm sure all teams have that pitcher where the fans go oh fuck, here we go. Every time Jim Johnson takes the mound I feel like I'm watching the A's calling Jose Canseco to the mound. All you can do is say, this is going to be ugly.

-------------------------------------------

How about Bryce Harper - 0-0 4R 4BB 1R

first in modern history to do so with four walks, one RBI

Apart from blowing the call, there a few ways around it so it could be reviewed. Either way, I've always been against it and tonight just pissed me off. Fucking draining time.

After the game, Mattingly told reporters of his exchange with Conroy, as shown on SportsNet LA.
"He told me he didn't believe in the neighborhood play, so I guess he changed the rules tonight, so it's something for the league to think about, really. I didn't realize that he could actually change the rules during the game," Mattingly said. "He told me he didn't believe in the neighborhood play. Jim Joyce believed in it the other day against the Cubs."

I laughed out loud when I saw the Upton/Utley exchange.
Mattingly was pissed off because he didn't want to say anything that would get him in trouble. He was close, but didn't take the bait the reporters kept throwing his way.
Even more pissed was Jerry Harriston Dodger in studio announcer. He was piiiiiiisssssed off!! They had to calm the guy down.
In other news- is Orel Herschiser weird looking or what? When he was young he looked like an all american pie good ole boy. These days he looks like my aunt Mildred.

The traditionalist in me opposes replay but these fucking umps are so bad that it's needed.

When you've got guys like CB Bucknor, Joe West, or Angel Hernandez it's needed. Plus they're a union so when they massively fuck up, let their personal biases effect the game ( ie. West/King Felix, Conroy/Bochy, etc. ), or think that the game revolves around them nothing happens.

I look at replay with this had to happen because these guys suck so bad.

I was so pissed I turned it off and just switch back n forth with the feeling of puke. I kept saying it was Seager not Utley talking to Upton.

Then the game before all the delay on Clayton's pick off at first...I fucking hate replay.

Valid points, really it needs to be revamped without replay and blast the union, when a worker fucks up he pays the price. Umpire Chris Conroy should be fined or suspended or put on a scale that would knock him out of the playoffs but the "neighborhood rule" and the rules around it including sliding into second or breaking up the double play are fucking stupid now.

There was a time growing up you lived by "you win some you lose some" and the umps worked harder and were better in football and baseball. Now like you said you have umps who think they're stars when they're nothing more then a higher paid hotdog vender.

YOU HAVE TO FUCKING KIDDING ME. I feel like I just got rabies.

Here we go again, a fan leaning over in center field hits the ball as it was dropping to the wall.
It's called a double, the booth started laughing calling it a "neighborhood play" saying it's either a double or a ground rule double.
Then here we go.....It's reviewed and overturned into a HR! The booth goes fucking nuts, no fucking way is there enough to over turn the call on the field. After last night the booth said their opinion how wrong it was and moved on. I didn't.
One thing about Football, if the review isn't totally clear it's not over turned, in baseball they clearly flip a coin to make the call.

Upon further review HOME RUN! Fucking fan interference bull shit. My first thought was that bitch Jeffrey Dickface during that fucking Jeter fake HR in the ALCS?

Fuck replay has been like a blister for me watching baseball this year, it's the 3rd game in a row that's sucked the game right out of me. I wished I was younger and didn't play and watch the day's before REPLAY. I'd probably be more accepting to this shit but I hated it in the NFL and it's worse with MLB.

Announcer - "And at the end of 3 it's Jedd Gyorko with a video assisted Home Run giving the Padres a 4 to 3 lead"

FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the word KILL used.
I'm a traditionalist, I like the game I grew up with, this isn't it. If I wasn't pissed I wouldn't like the game. I changed the channel, it's not really an angry feeling it's more of a RUINED game. Disappointing to disgusted.

GREAT!

The next inning, bases loaded, Utley takes out the 2nd baseman and stops the double play. Mattingly takes a walk, GAME DELAY AGAIN. THE 2nd BASEMAN wasn't even close to the bag but they called it an out. Utley went way out to drop the 2nd baseman but it was ok. What the fuck is replay for anyway, to overturn the correct call but can't be used on bad calls.

If you want to see how take out a 2nd baseman, watch Utley's play in the 4th. If you want to see an out at 2nd where the baseman wasn't even close to the bag, watch the same play.

This is as sloppy as it gets. This isn't baseball and I'm sounding like a whiny bitch so what else is around the league.

------------------

The Cubs destroyed the Dbacks.
The Pirates destroyed the Cards.
I really like the Pirates as an underdog going down this stretch, they've been solid all year and have the added experience of last years run into the WC. Cubs vs Pirates would make a great series. With that said, I'm starting to warm up to the Cubs.

The NL is the Card's to lose, after that it's going to be fun battle.

Best score of the night.
White Sox's 12 Royals 1 - No fights have been reported yet.
