Yeah, really good signing for the Hawks at that price. He was very good in the regular season. Had a tough series against the Islanders though.johnk5150 wrote:Campbell a Blackhawk again. Cheap.

Re: The official NHL thread
I met Joel Quenneville last week at the rinks in Foxboro for Pro League Scrimmages. Nice guy. For anyone in the area, it's a great take with some good NHL/College talent that play every Wednesday. Pretty much every team has management and star players coming in to court Jimmy Vesey. He's skating with Eichel. Supposedly Kane is coming in for the Hawks this week and Thornton with Sharks contingent. It's supposedly down to the Hawks, Rangers, B's, Leafs. Buffalo has his rights. He goes to free agency on 8/15. Here are the rosters:

I agree.
While I love all the accomplishments the franchise has had it's entire run and I'm proud of the streak, I honestly think the streak ending is what is going to wake up the owners and current idiots in charge. GM seems to be content with just continuing the streak every year regardless if we get bounced in the first round or not.

From "You Can't Make This Up" by Al Michaels"
To set the scene. Michaels brodcast partner was Ken Dryden.
"First, Dryden had some business to take care of. Right after the conclusion of the West Germany game, he got into a car and was driven across the Canadian border to Ottowa, 300 miles from Lake Placid. Why? He had to take his bar exam the next morning. He would pass with flying colors. That was Dryden. In between the game against West Germany and the Friday contest against the Soviets, he passed the bar. I began to think the guy could rescue people from a burning building for 3 straight days in his lunch break"

3 finalists for Las Vegas expansion team name
Desert Hawks
Night Hawks
Red Hawks
If I'm Chicago I'm more than a little bit pissed. No one here calls the Blackhawks anything but the Hawks. Hell I bet most fans of other teams call them simply the Hawks.

NHL asked for no gambling references, so Aces is out.
OHL London Knights apparently threatened a copyright/trademark infringement lawsuit in Canada if they used Black Knights.
My guess is they go with Thunder, the name of the old IHL club there.

Canada destroyed the Czechs 6-0 and put 50 shots on goal.ShearMagic wrote:The World Cup of Hockey started. Thoughts?
That's with Claude Giroux, Jake Muzzin, and Holtby scratched, Duncan Keith, Jeff Carter, Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin injured, Connor McDavid and other good young players playing for the Team North America under-23 squad, and Kris Letang, PK Subban, etc not on the team.
Great to watch, but you get the feeling Canada only loses if they beat themselves at some point.
Now watch the US beat them Tuesday...

But they made some odd selection choices. Not picking Kessel, Johnson, Faulk etc.
Plus I don't rate their coach at all! He healthy scratched Big Buff for some reason.

Re: The official NHL thread
If the North America team had not existed, then McDavid and Ekblad were in conversation for team Canada. Although McDavid has not been that impressive so far. Team USA have been affected more by not being able to choose from their under 23s. I believe team North America has more Americans than Canadians. Jonny Hockey for a start. Actually, even if they were available, I doubt the management for team US would have chosen these players! The future of American hockey looks good. As long as they change their management and coaching! Matthews looks like the real deal as well. Unfortunately!WOLF wrote:Canada destroyed the Czechs 6-0 and put 50 shots on goal.ShearMagic wrote:The World Cup of Hockey started. Thoughts?

And Canada vs. Czech Republic was not great to watch! In a one off game hopefully someone knocks Canada off their high horse.

Re: The official NHL thread
US management has said they built their team to compete with Canada (physically); hence some more skilled guys being left off the roster, in favour of grit.
Pretty stupid, considering they only play Canada in the preliminaries, and then could not possibly see them again until the final.
The NHL gave the USA "a pass" by putting them in the same division as Canada, with "lesser" teams, so they would finish 1-2, face worn down opponents in the semis, and give the networks a 2 of 3 final that's appealing to North American (read US) viewers.
US may have botched it all up yesterday.

It is really stupid. Didn't they see how the Penguins won the cup! I mean Kessel has his flaws, but come on now, Justin Abdelkader over him!WOLF wrote:US management has said they built their team to compete with Canada (physically); hence some more skilled guys being left off the roster, in favour of grit.

And I think the US have already botched it against arguably the weakest team in the tournament. Although Czech Republic could make a strong argument.
Anyway, watch the US beat Canada, then lose to the Czech Republic and be out.
The other group is far more even. Sweden with their excellent defensemen vs. Russia with their excellent offensive players.
FInland always play well as a team, although their best players are a bit too young (Barkov, Ristolainen, Laine etc.). Defense is a bit suspect as well. Ristolainen looks like a great young defenseman, but he can't do it all. People should see the hype that is Barkov in this tournament. Such a good smart player. Got some Selke votes last year, and should be challenging Bergeron, Toews, and Kopitar this year.
North America are ridiculously talented and fast. But their defense, lack of experience, and goaltending could be their undoing.

But the selection was made before his injury.
North America are ridiculous.
On paper they had a far stronger team than Finland. And it really showed! Don't know what has happened to Rinne either.
And their speed is currently causing Russia huge problems.

Well it seems that our young Finns don't know how to score a goal. Although King Henrik was on point yesterday and made all the necessary saves for the Swedes. Also, Sweden played smart. They let the Finns do all the hard work and played well enough defence. It reminded me of the World Championship final from the last spring when the Canadians were doing the same thing, keeping Finns from scoring goals, neutralizing their chances. Now, Sweden and Team North America can go on and play against Canada and Team Europe in the semis.

The last minute of the Sweden/North America OT was amazing.
It's a shame North America did not make the cut. They were the darlings of the tourney. Their merch sales are through the roof.
Anything can happen with the caliber of talent on the teams left, but Canada looks pretty dominant at this point.

Bruins 3rd line this season: 0 goals. 0 assists and -16.
Tuukka Rask has 2 points.
Typical Claude that this line hasn't been torn apart or at least had someone or two benched.
Hayes is pointless in his last 25 games.
Pathetic.
Tuukka Rask has 2 points.
Typical Claude that this line hasn't been torn apart or at least had someone or two benched.
Hayes is pointless in his last 25 games.
Pathetic.

Smith hasn't had the best of starts, but he is a lot better than Hayes!Facedown wrote:Bruins 3rd line this season: 0 goals. 0 assists and -16.
