Wild Yanks-Tigers clashes lead to 8 ejections

Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera has been suspended seven games for inciting the first benches-clearing incident and fighting during Thursday's game against the New York Yankees at Comerica Park, MLB announced Friday.

Yankees All-Star catcher Gary Sanchez received a four-game suspension for fighting, including throwing punches. Tigers pitcher Alex Wilson also was suspended four games for intentionally throwing a pitch at Todd Frazier while warnings were in place for both sides.

Yankees catcher Austin Romine received a two-game suspension for fighting, including throwing punches.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus was given a one-game suspension for the intentional actions of Wilson while warnings were in place.

"I figured because it started with Miggy that his would be big," Ausmus said. "I'm a little surprised at how short Gary Sanchez's is, quite frankly, considering some of the video I saw. I think that one probably shocked me the most. I thought he would get the largest suspension."

All five that were suspended also received undisclosed fines. Others who were fined for their actions during the incidents were Yankees manager Joe Girardi, Yankees bench coach/acting manager Rob Thomson, Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner, Yankees pitcher Tommy Kahnle and Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias. In addition, two members of the Yankees -- first baseman Garrett Cooper and outfielder Clint Frazier -- received fines for entering the field while being on the disabled list.

With the Yankees in the middle of a pennant race, the team says Sanchez and Romine will both appeal and remain eligible to play until the process is completed. Sanchez was in the lineup for Friday night's home game against Seattle.

Detroit slugger Miguel Cabrera and Yankees catcher Austin Romine wrestled on the ground near home plate during the first of three bench-clearing altercations during the Tigers' testy 10-6 victory over New York on Thursday.

The initial incident occurred when Cabrera and Romine fought at home plate, leading both dugouts to clear during the sixth inning. The fight was part of a crazy day of punches and hit batters exchanged between the sides. Both players were ejected, but they were not alone. In separate incidents, Girardi and Kahnle were ejected in the sixth inning, Thomson and reliever Dellin Betances were ejected in the seventh, and Ausmus and Wilson were ejected in the eighth.

A series of events led to Cabrera and Romine jawing in the sixth. Cabrera made the first move by pushing Romine in the chest and taking a swing.

Just before the fight, Yankees reliever Kahnle had fired a pitch behind Cabrera. Kahnle was immediately thrown out by plate ump Carlos Torres.

"It's MLB. They can do whatever they want, and they have to control the situation. But be fair," Cabrera said. "Watch the video. See the people throw punches. See the people go after me when I was on the floor. I don't ask that you give me fewer games. I don't care. I take my responsibility. But, come on.

"The guy (Kahnle) who threw at me? He said, 'No, it was an inside pitch.' Come on. Say the truth. Why not say the truth? I think that's bulls---."

Kahnle being ejected set off Girardi, who bolted from the road dugout. Girardi made a scene, kicking dirt and forcefully arguing that the ejection was unjust. Girardi said the umpires didn't understand the game. What likely got Girardi going was that Tigers starter Michael Fulmer remained in the game and was not warned after hitting Sanchez on the hip in the fifth inning. An inning earlier, in the fourth, Sanchez had homered off Fulmer.

The ejections continued in the seventh inning. Betances was tossed after hitting the Tigers' James McCann in the helmet with a 98 mph fastball. Betances was ejected only after Ausmus argued. This led Thomson, the Yankees' acting manager, to lose it, and he was ejected as well.

In the eighth, the Tigers' Wilson hit Frazier near his left hip. Wilson was ejected, along with Ausmus. Both benches cleared, and while there was shoving, no more punches were thrown.

Cabrera also singled out Yankees slugger Aaron Judge who was not suspended or fined.

"My point is, why are they not saying anything about Judge? He tried to hit me, go after me on the floor," Cabrera said. "They didn't suspend him. There was a lot of people going after me and they didn't get a suspension.

"(Judge) is going to get away (with it)? And the pitcher who threw at me, he's going to get away (with it) too, with no suspension? That's bulls---."

The KC/Seattle wild card battle got harder as the Royals Danny Duffy goes on 10 day DL with impingement.

B.S.
The only "bitch" in that brawl was Miggy. He started the fight and never landed a punch. His stats
in the fight were horrible.
If a baseball player wants to fight, he better expect to get hit back. Plain and simple.
Sanchez was drilled intentionally that game because the Tigers could not stop him, so
Sanchez has the right to punch anybody/everybody.
Sucker punch? Grow up! Get some balls!

Sanchez is going to pay for those cheap shots.

Two sucker punches to guys who were pinned down on the ground by multiple players on top of them. Absolutely gutless - just like anyone who would defend it.

oh please, everybody is making a big deal about this. he was suspended 4 games. 2 games per punch. it was a good ratio.
i'm glad Sanchez threw those punches. the Detroit players should be thankful Judge didn't do that.
you have to stick up for your teammates and Sanchez did. that's a good teammate and catcher right there.

Former major leaguers like Pedro Martinez disagree. Nobody likes a cheap shot artist. Dirty Sanchez will wear a few fastballs down the line.

LOL
Pedro is the last person who should be talking. He admitted, 90% of his beanballs were intentional. Some were at the head. He
threw down Don Zimmer. He declared the Yankees were his daddy. I don't see him wearing anything related to those examples.
They talk about Pedro like a HOF.

Sanchez might get drilled again by the Tigers, but the Yankees can certainly drill Miggy again if they want as retaliation.
Too bad the teams don't face each other again in 2017.
This might make for some good exhibition baseball in 2018. PLAY BALL!

"We went to the Rangers and said 'hey, let's switch series. You guys have our home series, we'll take your home series,'" said Ryan, according to Stefan Stevenson of the Star-Telegram. "They rejected that and didn't want to do that. The Rangers wanted us to play the next three days at their place, but they did not want to trade series with us.
They wanted all six games at their park."

Greed is alive and well. The Rangers should be ashamed.

The fuck? It's no secret you are probably the stupidest motherfucker on these boards, but "treating Pedro like a HOF?" Really?

Let's see. He put together the quite possibly the two most dominate seasons in baseball history and was a FIRST BALLOT HOFer.

Name me a Yankee pitcher ( that team in NY you've seen on TV ) that was better than he was. In their prime Guidry, Larsen, or a roided up Pettite couldn't hold a candle to Pedro. The Yankees finally started hitting him at the end of his career. I'll give them that.

Oh, and the little fat man? The one that attacked Pedro and he LAID him down on the ground while backing away and saying "no, no, no." Pedro fucked up there. He should have fucking killed him.

What about Clemens and his intentional headhunting? Piazza? Funny how you're silent there. Fucking retard.

i'm not silent at all. test me. i dare you! i might throw a pitch up and in to your sorry self. i bet you won't dig back into the box after that pitch sails near you :)

anyway, Pedro is a HOF. pretty sure i agreed that he is. that being said, as a commentator, Pedro is awful. he is very opinionated and usually incorrect. he let's
his feelings get the best of him while on TV and his english skills probably are a handicap to him as well.
Pedro beating up an old man. How does anybody approve that? Are Sox fans or ex Sox fans like yourself still upset
that Bill Lee's career virtually ended at the hands of Nettles and the Yankees? Get over it. Oh and guess what, Bucky Dent did hit that HR over the wall in LF. Deal with it!

i like Jim Rice bitching about the Yankees/Sabathia because Rice never won a WS title

with a mouth like that, Rice should show up in The Bronx and challenge C.C. to a fight.
that might get this rivalry started again. i prefer when these two teams hate each other.

It's funny as shit. I do like it when they hate each other though, but at least don't be because they made the game hard for your fatass.

I enjoyed Machado's no WS wins comment for Jim Rice too. Rice is in the HOF. Sabbathia never will be.

So, was Machado mad when Grey threw over to first when Holt was on?
I mean he got beaned in the foot the previous game and was no threat to run and it probably hurt him to scramble back to first, after all.

Funny thing is, Farrell is too stupid to know what to do with the info since the team batting since the ASB has sucked.
