ESPN says the same thing. Jets and Ravens hold the wildcards at this point. The reason Denver can win and not get in is because they're not in right now.

Re: Random observations about the 2009 NFL season.
The official NFL site has the Broncos in if the season ended before the weekend games. They'd also be the higher seeded wild card.

As was said above, several tiebreakers change after this weeks games. Everyone's in divisional and/or conference games which come into play when wild card teams have the same W-L record.

Re: Random observations about the 2009 NFL season.
I think they have it wrong according to their own analysis.
Ravens: If they win, they're in. While they would lose common opponents tiebreaker to Jets in three-way tie with New York and Denver, they would own head-to-head tiebreaker over Broncos.
If they own the head to head, they are already ahead of them at this point.
Broncos:They don't control their destiny. Broncos would lose common opponents tiebreaker to Jets and head-to-head to Baltimore if all three are tied after Week 17.
Broncos clinch playoff berth with DEN win + 1) NYJ loss + losses by BAL or PIT, OR 2) NYJ loss + HOU win, OR 3) BAL loss + PIT loss or HOU win. Broncos can clinch berth with DEN loss any combination of losses by 1) PIT + BAL + HOU + JAC, OR 2) PIT + BAL + HOU + NYJ, OR 3) PIT + BAL + JAC + NYJ, OR 4) PIT + HOU + JAC + NYJ, OR 5) MIA + NYJ + BAL + HOU + JAC.

Fuckin goddammit Denver, just win the division next year. This shit is making my head hurt.
Fuck sigs.
Re: Random observations about the 2009 NFL season.
Facedown is correct. According to Denver's own website, their playoff scenarios are:
Here’s how Denver clinches a playoff spot:
- DEN win + NYJ loss or tie + BAL loss or tie
- DEN win + NYJ loss or tie + PIT loss or tie
- DEN win + NYJ loss or tie + HOU win
- DEN win + BAL loss or tie + PIT loss or tie
- DEN win + BAL loss or tie + HOU win
If they were the 5 or 6 seed, all they'd have to do is win and be in.

The 8-7 Steelers are pissing and moaning about how the Bengals, who have nothing to play for, are going to lay down against the Jets to "keep us out of the playoffs."

Denver Broncos - Coach Josh McDaniels benches Brandon Marshall for being a pussy!
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d ... nfirm=true
Associated Press
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Just when they finally patched things up, Brandon Marshall and Josh McDaniels are back to square one, and another reconciliation appears farfetched.
McDaniels announced Friday that he's benching Marshall, his Pro Bowl wide receiver, for the Denver Broncos' pivotal season finale against the Kansas City Chiefs.
"Our word for the week has been accountability. And we're looking to put the 45 guys on the field on Sunday that want to play together, want to help us try to win and qualify for the playoffs," McDaniels said. "... And anybody that showed any indifference to that, we'll play without them.
Marshall suggested that he couldn't have played anyway after pulling his right hamstring at practice this week.
In an extraordinary half-hour at Dove Valley, McDaniels insinuated on the podium that Marshall was exaggerating the extent of his injury and was unaccountable to the team. Marshall responded from his locker by noting McDaniels never played in the NFL and hinting that he might be getting called out by his coach because the Broncos' season is unraveling.
Since a sizzling 6-0 start, Denver has gone 2-7.

Interestingly, the 2 NFC wild card games will be match ups from week 16.

Anyone else think the Colts and Saints are going to lose early in the playoffs?

Yup. Especially the Saints.
Been visiting my folks near Charlotte and went to the game today. Drew Brees or not they looked like shit.

With Pittsburgh out, I'll be pulling for Cincinnati and Philadelphia in the playoffs. My head says Dallas and San Diego though.

The NFL and it's Owners need to stop debating about the "competitive integrity of the same" & how some teams choose to rest "Key players" in a meaningless game.
What these morons should be doing is concentrate of lifting the "NFL blackout" rule that is still in play.
When that rule was created, it had some value.
It's now 2010 and the rule should be abolished.

This is a league that won't let balls go into the stands and fines players who give balls away.
While I love football, the NFL doesn't care about the fans, just the $. This whole London and Toronto thing is going to blow up in their faces sooner or later.

If any team does NOT like that, then that very same team should win more games and put themselves in a position where the final week or two of games is meaningless.

Re: Random observations about the 2009 NFL season.
But there is no way in hell the NFL can force a coach to keep "star" players in. I hate it, Tony Sorgi and the Colts laying down 2 years ago kept a 10-6 Browns team out of the playoffs. But, if it's meaningless game, why risk injuring your starters. Also, it's nice to get your back ups some reps b/c what if your "star" goes down in the playoffs???Machado wrote:The NFL and it's Owners need to stop debating about the "competitive integrity of the same" & how some teams choose to rest "Key players" in a meaningless game.

Fair enough. I don't blame coaches for resting players at all.
If the league is actually this concerned about it just go with an 18 game schedule already.

That's pretty much what I'm saying. These rumors that the NFL is going to look into not letting teams do what the Bengals did last night isn't going anywhere. The league can not dictate what players a coach decide to play or not play. Does it suck to watch? Yes. Does it suck for people who paid hard earned money to get a ticket? Yes. But it's a no win. Keep your starters in and lose your starting QB or RB, and you're an idiot coach for keeping your stars in. Protect your starters, plus get your back ups some reps in case they have to come in during the playoffs, and you're a coward coach.
