I like those odds but the Oil are still a top D man away from really making a go at it IMO.

Tough break for Preds? Yes, but it was also the correct call. Inadvertent whistles are a way of life in the NFL.

The problemis, some teams seem to get quicker whistles than other? And how does Crosby win ConnSmythe? The NHL is entering WWE territory.
Crosby put the Pens on his back in game 5 and led the way. That was the pivotal game.

He had a great playoff. Last year he should not have won, but I can't complain about him getting the nod this year.

Murray didn't play enough, so the only other candidates I see are Malkin and Guentzel, and Crosby's game was more complete than theirs.

Apparently Erik Karlsson got one Conn Smythe vote!

Oilers way too high imo. Bit early for this considering the draft, expansion draft, and free agency hasn't yet happened!

I will say this. My Habs' GM, Marc Bergevin, is not afraid to make bold moves.

We traded stud D-man in the making, Mikael Sergachev, for 22 year old, Montreal native, forward Jonathan Drouin. Great deal by both teams. I'm giddy!

Don't get too excited yet, Claude has a recent history of impatience with younger players.
Unless he's changed his ways, expect the kid to ride the bench a lot.

Tampa Bay that high? And Washington have never won shit and never will except for President's trophies. They are a one trick pony who can't play playoff hockey.

I just read this..skin condition? isn't he just taking this season off? but I agree, I think he'll just retire, think he only will make $1 Million/year for the next 4 years because of that front loaded contract he signed in '09?..I mean he's already got a boatload of cash, 3 Stanley Cups and he's 38..great career, loved watching him play.

Word is its a scam to get the Hawks millions of $ of cap relief. As stated, Hossa has already been paid most of his money.

League is apparently looking at it.

Not sure WTF the Panthers are doing. Losing both Smith and March. Better be something coming back from Vegas tomorrow. And our wing depth is abysmal. It wasn't great even with Smith and Marchessault!

A few moves baffled me yesterday. Florida and the Islanders in particular. Anaheim too. We'll see what plays out today.

Even if you want to get Smith off the books, did you really need to part with a young, top goal scorer to do it? Maybe Marchessault was a flash in the pan, but what if he wasn't?

Conversely, I don't know if the Habs just got lucky, but 31 year old Alexei Emelin, with a cap hit of 4.1 million, and a diminishing skill set, got chosen over younger players, with the Habs paying no premium.

Even if he isn't a flash in the pan, he still has trade value at $750,000 per year! 30 goals is probably unlikely, but 15-20 would have still be good value.

Smith was our second best defensive forward after Barkov. He might have been slightly overpaid, but he was a decent player and worth more than a 4th round pick! Good luck getting a UFA filling those gaps. Has to be a trade or three to sort out the top 6 wingers on the team! Tallon is back in charge and he's being pig headed about 'his guys', and it seems like he's giving the middle finger to the analytical guys who did all the moves last year. This franchise cannot survive another rebuild. Doesn't help he's saying the same spiel about young guys with character taking roster spots. Our prospects aren't that good! And Tallon's record in UFA is hardly stellar cough. Bolland. cough.

Honestly, I will wait until opening night, but at the moment I've very skeptical. If they haven't made legitimate moves to upgrade, I might just root for another team. Hell, they might be moved to Seattle if they continue sucking!

I was rooting for Koivu. Oh well. Bergeron is a lock for hall of fame at this rate.

Jordan Eberle for Ryan Strome...can't say I'm surprised at this, this is nothing more than a salary dump, they are gonna need some coin to sign McDavid/Drasaitl...my guess is Eberle will get a shot to play with Tavares.

Good trade for all IMO. Edmonton clears $, rids themselves of a guy who likely needed a change of scenery, and gets a good young player in return. NYI get an exceptional talent who needs a new start, and maybe, just maybe, it helps them keep Tavares.

I wanted both players for the Habs, so the trade particularly irked me!

He's going to move some of the better guys he got.

He had to form a decent team now, AND build for the future. He did an amazing job amassing picks and young players via trades to steer away from guys.

HOWEVER

If he really wanted to build a competitive team for now, he could have forgone those trades and built a really good team: Fleury/Mrazek/Pickard in nets; on D he could have got Vatanen, Dumba, Enstrom, Bogisian, Methot, Emelin, Schmidt, and Jack Johnson. Up front: Strome, Marchessault, Perron, Plekanec, Camellari, Matt Read, Krueger, Neal, Eakin.

I realize they got many of those guys, but if they would have got all, and not dealt anyone, they could have been very competitive now.

Well, $4m just went to Russell!

Rumours of McDavid getting $14m! Think it will be between $12m and $13m tbh.

got a first rounder and a forward from the wild to not take dumba. 3 first round picks in the top 16. vegas just beat the odds. they look good.

Vegas used their picks well.

And LA Kings getting Vilardi is really good for them.

Reaves and a 3rd round to the Pens for a 1st round pick and Sundqvist.

Seems a steep price to pay for a 4th liner. A good 4th liner, but still!

they really like Russell, to me he's an ok dman, was a warrior in the playoffs and led the league in blocked shots during the regular season, it's a top heavy contract, so in year 4 he's set to make $2.5 million, I think he'll be gone by then though. I can't see McD asking for $14 Million ( he cripples the team asking for that much, I am hoping for something around $9.7 - $11 million.)

$9.7m is wishful thinking.

I know Crosby got $8.7m but the cap was a lot different. I think it was 17% of the cap at the time.
