It's that time of year... Sludge fantasy baseball!

Post by JakeYonkel »

Yes yes... football's over, it's time.

I just registered the league and sent invites to anybody who was in last year.

Yahoo league ID # 144087
Password is "sludge" naturally

Couple changes this year and if you're not down with 'em, then we can put 'em back.

1) I made a max move number of 80 for the whole season. I recall there being complaints last year. I play in a 12 team league every year and 80 is a real good number. If you want more, or to abolish it altogether, let me know.

2) Changed some stat categories. I took out batting average since on-base percentage is sort of more complete. In it's place I added the "Quality Start" for pitchers. Which basically means at least 6 innings and 3 runs or less. That way if your closer blows a well-pitched game for your starting pitcher, he won't get the Win, but he'll still get a QS.

Thoughts, opinions, any other suggestions? Let me know.

Defending champ is back to prove Canadians can kick ass at more than just hockey! Thanks for setting up the league Jake.

I like the changes. I've taken full advantage of having no cap on moves the last few years, so I look forward to proving myself in a more "restrictive" league.

I like the quality start stat and am pretty indifferent about batting average coming out. I would like to see an odd number of stats though - less ties (assuming all categories are won by someone).

You forgot saves.

If that's the case - I'm down with it. Now lets fill our 16 slots and set a date.

Jake, it's not letting me sign up, I keep getting an "invalid team name" error. Can you renew me from your end?

Every year I get excited for fantasy baseball, and start out doing all the shit you should do to have a good team...and then by the AS break my team feels like a chore and I ignore it. This year, I'm going to get a head-start and just not join.

Sorry, folks, you'll have one less team to beat up on at the end of the year!

Alright Crud's Crappers.....er Funnelheads Freaks, maybe? None the less I am on board and ready to actually making it to the final round instead of just blowing away the field for the first 3/4 of the season. My last month was not good last year.

I'm back too. I'll give the max moves limit a shot. I'm considering trying a different type of league as well, like a dynasty or auction league or something, just to get some more experience out of the whole thing.

I'm The Miz and will be cycling between wrestling names this year, because that's what I do. 8)

No saves this year?

I've tried but keep getting this when I attempt to register:

There was a problem

* The password is incorrect. (Error #109)
* That league is not available. (Error #450)

I had a problem too..If you have any punctuation in your name, get rid of it. It wouldn't take "Pat's" but accepted "Pats".

That's who I was thinking of, Sheepmafia. Is he in, or has anyone PM'ed him to let him know it's back on? I think I did last year, because he wasn't posting here anymore.

I haven't talked to anybody.

Tinny said above that he's not doing it.

So there are 4 spots left. Worse comes to worse we can roll with 14 or so.

There were 2 leagues last year so I'm just surprised this one isn't even full yet.

My friend that plays in my other league thought I should take out Wins if I'm going to use Quality Starts, since it makes the league too pitching-heavy. Thinking about replacing that with SLG %. This will at least give a little bit to power hitters and guys with lots of doubles/triples. Thoughts?

I like wins better than quality starts. Call me a traditionalist, but I still respect a guy who gives 5 good innings, passes it to a strong bullpen, and gets the win for his team.

There's something un-natural about not having wins in there, IMO.

I'd keep the wins. I'm not crazy about other stats like Quality Starts, but I can see its importance and how it can influence draft strategy and managing your team closer. However, a QS doesn't always guarantee a win.

And I actually forgot there was no AVG so this is gonna be a very interesting learning curve.

Here is my thought on the wins debate. I like the fact that your pitcher can go out there, pitch like Gooden on crack, and then a weak ass bullpen comes in and loses his win. He walks out with a killer era and K's, adding to the total, yet gets hosed in the wins stat. That's baseball.

I don't have a problem not having avg for the reason Jake pointed out, but if the goal is to even the statistical sides, I'd vote for dumping quality starts.
