Funny in my younger days I'd watch the Chicago network and support them till I meet the fan base.

I worked on and lived by an AFB so these "distance" fans came from other planets like Chittown and St Lousy, not that where you live has fuck all to do with it. Cub fans come off as a dumb down cheap beer drinking version of Cardinals fans. But I do respect their loyalty, most teams would die faster then you could say Montreal. It's hard to hate on a team because of their glee club but with the CUBS it's a written rule you have to hate the team because of their peanut gallery.

I'd love to watch a game at Wrigley and enjoy it even more to catch and keep the HR ball. Looks like a fun park full of nasty beer drunkards.

Seeing Manny hit was jaw dropping. He ( was ) argueably the greatest RHH of all time. 500HRs, 500 2Bs no one in the Hall has that. He went to LA and the Dodgers sniffed the post-season because of his inhuman 1.232OPS. Turns out it was inhuman.

Manny's Turning Japanese? He's really turning Japanese?....Too funny, this I have to see. Hated to like him, Manny's a total douche but gave the Dodgers a lift before crashing. Even at Boston I hated him but would always watch his at bats. One of the best clubbers ever. Roids or not.

I did love those bobble heads, they gave them away at a home game then sent the left overs to a local Dodgers farm team....So I bought them for $5 and pushed them for $60 then stopped at $45. Bought a ton and still have a few, think they're down to $20.....Been giving the last few away to any Manny fans I know or meet.

True but the Cubs who's rotation is surprisingly good don't have a pitcher on the level of Chris Sale.

So, one of my best friends is getting married, and wants to take the bachelor party to Wrigley. He's a lifelong Cubs fan due to spending hours on the road as a small child visiting relatives in the Chicago area and listening to Cubs games on the radio. I'm a Braves guy myself and really had no interest in going to a game, but we knew the after party would at least be memorable.

Anyway, I got the full Cubs experience.

We started off the day drinking Old Style's as a cold wind whipped in under the covered portion of the infield behind home plate, making an otherwise pleasant day damn near miserable. Things got off to an expected start as the Reds knocked one into the left field bleachers early to go up 1 - 0. They were sending one of their best young pitchers to the mound that day, sporting something like a 1.01 ERA. Either the wind was bothering his control, or he was just off, because he plunked the 3rd batter up, bringing Soriano to the plate. That was followed by a line drive shot over the left field wall.

The rest of the game is pretty hazy (those Old Style's are pretty damned good) until we get to the 8th, and here comes everybody's favorite Cubs reliever.

Marmol loaded the bases before the guy that relieved him gave up the winning runs.

Still, I did figure out why the fans continue to fill the stadium year in and year out. The party after the game was great (nothing like that after a Braves game). We drank our way around Wrigleyville and had a blast until one of the guys in our party regurgitated the contents of his stomach outside the Houndstooth. (Hey, it's a bar in Chicago named the Houndstooth and decorated in Alabama memorabilia... I had to go in. Plus, they sold 40s.)

So, yeah, that's my Cubs story.
