Tebow rally is jam-packed...

... if you go by the measurements on the P13 Reality Distortion Scale
Tim Tebow rally fizzles, just like his NFL Dream

A Tim Tebow rally in Jacksonville kinda fizzled, to be kind. Maybe a dozen people, tops, showed up on Monday afternoon to support for Tebow and to urge the Jacksonville Jaguars to sign the nation’s most famous unemployed quarterback.

Rumor has it that thousands more hopped onto the Tebow Bandwagon, but it couldn’t start. Ba-da-bing.

Sadly, that’s what Tebow has become these days, a national punch-line, or better yet a polarizing piñata. The amazing Tao of Tebo makes him the one athlete in America whose popularity is immensely disproportionate to his skills set as an NFL quarterback.

Yes, we all know he’s a winner, but to rinse and repeat, so were Heisman winning quarterbacks Chris Weinke, Jason White, Matt Leinhart, Troy Smith, and to go back a bit further, Charlie Ward. Speaking of, the kid was a great Christian, and great college QB who was told by the NFL to basically take a hike. He went undrafted after winning the Heisman in 1993, but went on to have a nice career in the NBA.

So where is the outrage over these guys getting cut, particularly the crew that latches onto the ‘why does the NFL continue to employ criminals like Mike Vick and not give a chance to good guys like Tebow?”

Well, a few things to consider: Vick, even though he did some despicable things, is a much better quarterback than Tebow. Vick did his time for the dog-killing thing, and legally merits to a second chance to get his life in order.

Secondly, Tebow fans are not smarter than NFL executive and coaches. There are 32 of them that don’t think he can play in the league. They would include John Elway and Bill Belichick, great football minds who have won multiple Super Bowls.

Tebow fans are not smarter than NFL Insider Chris Mortensen, either.

“This is the problem that you hear from some teams,” Mortensen said Monday on ESPN. “It’s all this attention, all this stuff that happens that you get with Tim Tebow. It’s not Tim’s fault. Tim didn’t call this rally. But it’s the hubbub, the circus wherever he goes. And it’s turned off some teams from taking a look at him.”

He was then asked the ‘why not’ question, given the state of disarray in Jacksonville.

“You don’t do that to sell tickets. You are there to build a franchise as a GM. You sign him if you believe he can be a quarterback for the future.”

The Jaguars obviously do not. As bad as they are, they don’t want to sign up for the freak show. They don’t want to deal with all the people _ and yes there will be more than a dozen obviously _ screaming that Tebow deserves to start and it will only be a matter of time before he leads them to the Super Bowl if only he were given a chance.

Most of these people aren’t true Jaguars fans, bless their souls. They are Tebow fans. Big difference.

It’s not a sustainable business model, despite the short term buzz it will create.

Tebow has been given plenty of chances, both in games and in scores of practices, to prove he can play at this level.

He can’t.

The problem with Tebowmania is that no one can make a sound football and business decision without it turning into a morality play. Tebow does have the skill set to do wonderful things in life and to be a great influence, particularly with those who admire his strong religious beliefs.

That’s the bandwagon everybody _ including Tebow _ needs to hop on, and forget this football thing.

That's still more people than the 11 who showed up to greet the Super Bowl losing Colts at the airport.

When the Saints make their triumphant return to New Orleans for a victory parade on Tuesday, the crowds are expected to be so enormous that the city will be shut down for everything else.

When the Colts returned to Indianapolis today, they were greeted by a somewhat more subdued crowd.

According to the Indianapolis Star, a grand total of 11 people showed up at Indianapolis International Airport when the team returned this afternoon.

The 11 die-hard fans weren’t allowed to get close to the players; they were held behind a security fence hundreds of feet away.
