Re: Bret Michaels in ICU
He took a hard hit in the head when Poison played the Tony Awards. I wonder if that had anything to do with this.

Re: Bret Michaels in ICU
It's more likely linked to his diabetes then the whack on the head.

Causes
Aneurysms may result from congenital defects, preexisting conditions such as high blood pressure and atherosclerosis (the buildup of fatty deposits in the arteries), or head trauma.

Re: Bret Michaels in ICU
Other causes of subarachnoid hemorrhage include: bleeding disorders, congenital abnormalities (such as an arteriovenous malformation), a use of blood thinners. Most diabetics take blood thinners to avoid clotting because they're more susseptible to stroke and heart attacks.
If the knock to the head caused such serious damage it probably would of shown up sooner. It was probably more related to his blood pressure and blood thinners.

Re: Bret Michaels in ICU
If they can't find the source of the bleeding, they can't treat it.
From ABCNews.com:
Bret Michaels' Speech Slurred, Vision Blurred; Brain Bleeding Has Doctors Puzzled
Reality TV Star and Rocker Still in Critical Condition at Undisclosed Facility
Bret Michaels remains in critical condition at an undisclosed facility where doctors still haven't found the source of bleeding onto his brain that is affecting his speech and vision, according to the singer's website.
(Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage/Getty Images)The 47-year-old reality TV star and frontman of the glam-metal band Poison has been hospitalized since late Thursday after suffering a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage, or bleeding at the base of his brain stem, his publicist confirmed to ABCNews.com Friday.
"At this point Bret remains in ICU in critical condition," read a statement posted on bretmichaels.com Sunday. "He is under 24 hour doctors care and supervision. We are hopeful that further tests will locate the source of the bleeding, which has still not been located. As we all know Bret is a fighter and we are hopeful that once all is complete the slurred speech, blurred vision and dizziness, etc. will be eliminated and all functions will return to normal."
There were reports Saturday that Michaels had been downgraded from critical condition, but bretmichaels.com called those "incorrect reports."
Still, Michaels' father, Wally Sychak, sounded encouraged when he spoke to the website RadarOnline.com on Friday about a phone conversation with Michaels.
"I talked to him this morning. He sounded upbeat and positive but they had him sedated," Sychak said. "But he's doing good. He sounded like my son."
The latest medical woes for Michaels, a diabetic, came just days after an emergency appendectomy he received after falling ill before a concert April 11.

Re: Bret Michaels in ICU
Mitzee Dupree made a great point:
As I stated in The Lounge, what's more likely is they gave him an injection of the anti-coagulant Heparin after his appendectomy to PREVENT clots. Unfortunately, one of the side effects of Heparin is brain bleeds. Heparin injections are extremely common after abdominal surgery, in fact, you generally have to give a "no heparin" order to avoid them.
I'm not a doctor. I'm not a nurse. But I'm betting on this

If I'm reading the gossip board right, they think Bret's faking it for publicity. Thoughts?

They're on the gossip board saying that he faked the whole thing and people are stupid if they believe it.

Re: Bret Michaels in ICU
I tend to doubt it's faked, but it could very well have been a minor problem that was conflated into something worse than it was for the press.

No such thing as a minor brain hemorrhage.chickenona wrote:I tend to doubt it's faked, but it could very well have been a minor problem that was conflated into something worse than it was for the press.

Well Bret's in the final two of the celebrity apprentice so we'll have to wait and see if he shows up for the finale next week. We'll see what shape he's in then.

Bret's back in the hospital with a stroke and a hole in his heart. They don't know if he'll make the Aprentice final or not.
