Evil Dead (2013): 7/10
Evil Dead 2 is among my favorite movies ever, so I reluctantly watched this expecting to hate it. But I didn't. I missed the camp and humor from the originals, but they tipped their hat to them enough times to appease me, and they somehow managed to update and polish them in a way that didn't piss me off. Plus the demons looked cool and the gore was fun.

À l'intérieur ("Inside" 2007) - 8/10.

Pretty sick French horror flick. If you're into extreme gore completely devoid of humor, this is a must-see.

I Spit On Your Grave (2010 remake)

6/10

Too many new characters added, interesting dialogue however. But more violence for the sake of violence as opposed to moving the story along. The 1978 version is MUCH more, I dunno, mind-fucky. Limited dialogue, no real soundtrack other than incidental music, more psychological horror than gore/violence.

Did this one involve a knitting needle, hairspray flamethrower, scissors and a baby? (I think I remember that right) If so, it was good, but in a really ugly way.

Hell yeah. After seeing it, I bought the DVD.
I thought it was the best of the "Big 4" that was discussed on here a few years ago.

It was just 4 horror movies that seemed to pop up together here. Actually, it might even be in this thread.
They were

Inside
Ichi The Killer
Audition
Martyrs

Just so happens Imprint is next in my queue.
Only gets 2.5 stars, though.

I've been reading up on Takashi Miike and learned he directed Ichi the Killer too. I haven't seen that. How does it compare to Audition and Imprint? If the reviews are accurate, it's worse.

I've actually neither seen Audition nor Imprint, but Ichi is fucking awesome. One of the freakiest movies ever, even beyond all its gore.

If I've become a soft, more easily disturbed pussy in my old age is it something I should avoid? I feel compelled to watch it just because I haven't but don't really need some new hideous image to haunt me.

I rated them as follows:

Inside - 9/10
Ichi The Killer - 8/10..It's been a while since I saw it but I remember thinking Dead/Alive type gore with less campiness.
Audition - 7/10. The extremely slow pace is made up for in the last 30 minutes or so.
Martyrs - 6/10. Major disappointment from the hype it got on here. Not bad at all but just didn't measure up. The ending was way too long.

Agree on all of those except Martyrs. Definitely about a 9 for me.

Probably the lowest out of that group of films.
