Went to the drive in last night and saw Into the Storm and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Into the Storm - 2/10 - What a pile of shit! The fun part was that the wife and I went MS3TK on it.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 8/10 - Such a fun movie! Will see again and can't wait for the sequel.

DSAB wrote:Game of Death - how in the hell was this made? What could be the worst, most egregious cash grab movie ever. Rudimentary laughable graphics, cut and pasting Bruce Lee's head on a stunt double at ridiculous angles, badly dubbed dialogue, even for the Anglos. Total piece of shit. And for a billion Chinese on the planet, they couldn't find one that actually could pass for Lee? Poor Hugh Obrien must have been super hard up for cash. And to hell with Bob Wall and Danny Inosanto for acting in this crap.

0/10 overall

Actual Bruce fighting on three levels scene for 15 minutes - 8/10
You really need to check out the 2000 documentary: Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey in order to really appreciate Game of Death.

The movie was still very much a work in progress when he died, which is why Game of Death turned out to be such a mess.
In A Warrior's Journey, they used Lee's notes and original story board (how there were actually two other guys in the original script along with Lee climbing the pagoda) and some lost footage and put together the entire pagoda climb the way it was meant to be... minus Collen Camp of course, but Death Game is really her ultimate movie.

I was off on vacation this week, so I caught a pair of matinees.

Expendables 3: 5/10
The second one was so much better that it was tough to top.
Story was also fairly predictable, although I thought one of the youngans was going to turn bad guy, but didn't. In the end I left the theater thinking: Meh!

Guardians of the Galaxy: 7/10
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this as much as I did.
Whenever you hear people say, "I hate comic book movies, but I liked this one," there is always some trepidation. I walked in thinking I was going to see something in the vain of Last Action Hero (which I didn't mind because I knew up front it was a parody), and hopefully not something like Cabin in the Woods (which I absolutely hated since it marketed as a horror movie and not a parody of one). But in the end the parody part was a little more restrained, which is probably why I liked it.

Sin City: A dame to kill for
6/10

The boat on this sequel sailed long ago. I really liked the first one. This one looked cool but was missing interesting stories in it. Eva Green was naked in most of her parts which accounts for 4 of the points above. Mickey Rourke's makeup job somehow looks worse in this movie. Jessica Alba did a great job looking hot, but keeps proving she cannot act.

I'm no TenBenny, but let me elaborate: Emma Stone was also kinda hot, even though she's bony as hell, like I'd even be afraid to give it to her (this is 60s jargon because I'm paying attention to the narrative level this time).

I may have cried a little in the end, but I forgot why. There were emotions happening or some shit.

The Help was fucking cringe-worthy terrible. Silly-assed limousine liberal pat-on-back sentimental horse manure in the long tradition of Driving Miss Daisy and Crash. AMPAS voters always vote for this tripe; and any kind of film that shows real truth about black race relations in this country, like Malcolm X or Boyz In The Hood, gets the Heisman block shuffle come awards season.

No, even fascists are human beings. Unless they're Negro facists. That's just too many strikes against them.

Ghostbusters
8/10

We caught this last night as it is playing in theaters this week for its 30th anniversary. Haven't seen this in years. Still very funny. Our son, who's 7, loved it. Aside from some of the effects and 80's styles, the movie didn't feel dated at all.

That movie definitely holds up. Its one of those movies that you love as a kid, because it has ghosts in. But when you get older, you starting noticing the humour in it as well. One of my favourite films starring Bill Murray.

Final Exam 5/10

Unusual slasher in that the killer's identity is never revealed. Saying that isn't really a spoiler since it's not important at any point during the movie. Killer on campus plot.

Blue Ruin 2013

Dwight is a beach vagrant, living out of his car and scavenging through trash cans and dumpsters for food and money. A policewoman finds Dwight and gives him the news that Wade Cleland, the man who murdered his parents, is soon to be released from prison.

He wants revenge and goes after it.

I liked it, but it had the tendency to drag a bit.

I think they were trying to go for that No Country For Old Men vibe.

Worth a watch. 7/10

Oh yeah, Eve Plumb (aka Jan from the Brady Bunch) is in it.
I didn't even realise she was still alive let alone acting.
