The November Man

6/10

I like seeing Brosnan in a Bond type role again. Story is a bit week. Don't think I would go out of my way to see it again.

About a band trying to make it with a lead singer with a big fake head that he never takes off. Kinda fun movie, I enjoyed it.

Emmanuelle Seigner was and still is really hot. I guess when you drug and butt rape a hundred 13 year old girls, the Law of Averages dictates that one of them will stick around for more.

Foxcatcher - Did Nothing for me. 4/10

Steve Carrel showed us his acting chops but that couldn't help it from being a bad movie. It wasn't told very well and just sort of lumbered along. I love Mark Ruffalo and he was his pleasant self and Channing is fine but I have no idea why this film is getting the hype and awards that it is.

God Bless America (2011) - 8/10. It's sort of an action grotesque with an excessively blunt political message. As a movie it's not even trying to be great, it's basically a bastard of Falling Down, Natural Born Killers and Idiocracy with hardly any suspense or resolution, but somehow I loved it anyway.

Frankenstein's Army - 7/10 - Great flick, was in the mood for cheep horror and got it. Good story, the Monsters are genius, the acting is excellent. nonstop gore with a good twist. Everything you want for a late night flick.

http://www.frankensteinsarmy.com/

Hobbit, Battle of 5 Armies - 7/10 - I re-watched the Fellowship and Two Towers and maybe it's me but the last three are better then the first three.
I give it high marks just for being a big film full of better battle scenes but I can't see sitting down and watching these films over again. I guess it comes down to Bilbo vs Frodo. Bilbo is a far better, more likable character in the book and movie while Frodo and Gollum's drawn out scenes sucked the life out of me in the movie.

I totally agree about that. I was expecting much, much more from it. The whole movie just felt... awkward.

This. Just downloaded it. Wanted this to be so much better, but it was more like some random sports-themed movie of the week. Nothing special at all. And I cannot stand Channing Tatum. Fucking worthless tool of an actor.

Pretty typical Will Ferrel movie.

He's kinda hit or miss with me, but this was pretty funny.

Turner Classic Movies had a mini Louis Malle marathon today:

Au Revoir, les Enfants (1987) 9/10- probably Malle's best film, about a young French boy and his friendship/antagony with young French Jewish boy during WWII. The setting takes place in a Catholic boarding school where the Jewish kid is being hidden from the Vichy from persecution.

Lacombe, Lucien (1974) 6/10- another WWII period piece about a teenager from Southern France joining the Vichy secret police. The plot and acting are good but the dialogue and theme are half baked and one dimensional. I was rewriting it in my head as I watched.

Murmur of The Heart (1971) 7/10- a spoiled teenage bourgeois and his ribald adventures including bedding his own (very attractive) Italian mother at some French spa. There isn't a single character in the entire film who deserves sympathy.

Louis Malle was one of those directors who never made a bad film, and occasionally among his mediocrities he hit a few out of the park.

Avatar (2009) - 5/10. Shit looks like some kind of video game. I'm not impressed. As far as sappy childish cartoons go, I still prefer The Land Before Time.

Contrary to my own belief, I didn't remember one fucking thing about this movie and I even had the theme song that gets stuck in my head every once in a while wrong.

Corpse Bride - 7/10

Focus 7/10 - decent plot, Will Smith is still a cool actor, Margot Robbie is drop-dead gorgeous (almost unreal). It went a bit over the top at times but it remains entertaining throughout. Solid.

Trapped (2002) - 7/10. I'm probably overrating it a lot, but Charlize Theron is H to the ot in it, then there's Dakota Fanning totally helpless and handicapped and shit, Courtney Love playing Sid & Nancy, and last but not least, I imagined watching it with Stoner, and Kevin Bacon at his most revolting ever... makes for decent entertainment overall.

A Million Ways to Die in the West: 5/10
I'm going to file this one under mildly entertaining... And this is coming from someone who though his Lincoln joke at the Oscars was the best highlight from that show. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. It was meh!

The pickings have been pretty slim on both the movies and cable front that I'm starting to watch Lifetime movies out of boredom.

Which leads me to....

Damaged 6.5/10
Chris Klein plays this teacher who gets obsessed with the hot rich girl next door (Merritt Patterson) who is a psychopath, of course. He proceeds to make one inappropriately bad move after the other, falling into her trap.
Much like all Lifetime movies, this borrows heavily from other better movies we've already seen before, but it had enough of a so bad its good vibe that it kept me entertained... Something I couldn't say for The Counselor, Battle Los Angeles, Skyline and basically any Rob Zombie film.
Merritt Patterson helped make this movie watchable.

While I'm at it, I came across Lords of Salem on cable last week and was reminded of how truly awful that hunk of shit was.

I picked The Counselor as the worst movie I saw that year, but only because I had high expectations of it.
I knew Lords of Salem was gonna suck, but I never imagined just how bad it was gonna be. Seeing bits of it on cable only reminded me. IT SUCKED AND SUCKED HARD!!!!
It was easily the last movie I really should have walked out of.
