Blumpkin King wrote:Got a screener for Straight Outta Compton. Pretty good. Does not paint a flattering picture of Suge, and make Dre out to almost be an angel. I would give it 8 out of 10, but I knew a lot of the story and characters. Someone who does not will probably get lost in the world of rap.
I thought the same about Dre as well. The only mention was at the end when the girl he was trying to hook up with said something about pending lawsuits. He was also one of the main producers on the film so of course they are going to leave out him beating the shit out of women out of it. Aside from that, it was a good flick.

The man is an underrated actor. Whether he stars in a drama, comedy, family film, he's a fine actor and can play just about any role.

Sicario - 8/10
Not entirely what I was expecting. Pretty grim/dark movie. I thought Del Toro's character had a lot of similarities with Bardem's in No Country For Old Men. He'll probably get nominated for an Academy Award.

Black Sabbath 9/10, classic Mario Bava anthology horror film. Boris Karloff narrates it then stars in the third installment The Vurdelak, creepy as fuck.

Airplane II - 4/10
Nothing can touch the original. Few good laughs but not enough of them. Forgot that 95% of the soundtrack was from Battlestar Galactica.

Bad Words - 2013 - Jason Bateman stars and directs. Pretty mediocre comedy about a 40 year old genius 8th grade dropout that finds a loophole that allows him to enter the national spelling bee. 6.5 out of 10. Best thing about it was it knew when to quit and didn't overstay it's welcome. The little Indian kid (as in from India) was cute too. 90 mildly amusing minutes...

Have not heard a good thing about this film. I guess about 1/2 a dozen people have mentioned how disappointing the film was. Was airing last night but I changed the channelratt_gang_member wrote:It was disappointing.GreatWhiteSnake wrote:Bad Words - 2013 - Jason Bateman stars and directs. Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Saw the Docu/film, 'From Austin to Boston' last w/end. Basically a road movie, with a few selected musicians, Ben Howard, The Staves, Nathaniel Raitleff & some others, travelling 'From A to B' in 5 VW Camper vans, playing gigs and tasting road life.
It gives a real perspective of how life is as a travelling muso. Plenty of highs, a few low points and a real togetherness within the group.
I'd have loved to have done it with them. 8/10.

How could anyone in their right mind have expectations enough for this film to disappoint?

Movie trailers and hype sometimes do that to the movie going public. Une affaire de femmes / Story of Women (1988) - 7/10
Story of an exemplary guillotine execution of a woman in WW2 occupied France, for performing abortions from German soldier "affairs". Bleak stuff, but also sort of uplifting at times due to Isabelle Huppert's portrayal of an uneducated mother just trying to make the best of a shitty situation without being dragged down by resigned and oppressive men.
A Love Song for Bobby Long (2004) - 7/10
Decent New Orleans family reunion drama with John Travolta as bloated alcoholic intellectual and Scarlett Johansson in her classic role as blank naive boobhooker.
Aloha (2015) - 3/10
Godawful romantic comedy with the Hangover guy, Rachel McAdams (always hot) and Emma Stone (at least not ginger here). There's some NASA sub plot with Bill Murray that makes zero sense.
